Warning signs

What are the signs your Maserati brakes need new pads or discs?

Six signs tell a Maserati owner the brakes want work, and we list our repair under each. Four appear in the cluster: the red brake warning, the pad wear light, a flashing parking brake light and a false Grecale pad warning. Judder and grinding reach the driver through the pedal and the ear.

The red brake warning light on a Ghibli

On a 2024 Ghibli, the red brake warning light covers the fluid level and the parking brake. Lit with the brake released and the reservoir full, it can signal a hydraulic or brake booster fault, and Maserati warns of longer braking distances. Our fix is a booster repair, or a new line, hose or calliper where fluid leaks, followed by a full bleed.

The Brake Pads Wear light

On a 2024 Ghibli or a 2025 Grecale, this light and its message mean the pads have reached their wear limit. We fit a new pad set across that axle.

A parking brake light that flashes

When its electric parking brake system fails, a 2024 Ghibli flashes the brake warning light for 10 seconds beside the parking brake light. A 2025 Grecale lights its parking brake light and flashes the brake warning light for 10 seconds on that fault. We repair or replace the actuator or calliper at fault.

A pad warning on a Grecale with thick pads

On a Grecale, a front pad wear sensor harness that rubs on nearby parts can chafe through its sheath and trigger a false warning. Maserati's fix is a new front pad set, with the harness laid in the calliper groove. We inspect the harness and sheath, and fit that fix where either is damaged.

Judder through the pedal

Judder comes from a disc of uneven thickness, and on certain cars a difference of just 0.015 mm can start it. Each disc gets a thickness variation reading, and a disc past the limit is renewed.

Grinding under braking

A grinding sound under braking means the friction material is gone and metal is meeting the disc. Our technicians fit new pads, and a disc scored in deep rings or cracked from the centre out is renewed too.

What it covers

What our Maserati brake pads and disc replacement includes

A Maserati brake job in our bay takes in these items:

  • Road test and brake fault code read
  • Disc and pad thickness gauged on each axle
  • Discs judged against their minimum thickness
  • Pads renewed as a full axle set
  • Discs renewed in pairs with new pads
  • Pad wear sensors and harness checked
  • Electric parking brake service mode
  • Calliper slides, seals and brackets checked
  • DOT 4 fluid test, top-up and bleed

We hold every Maserati brake pads and disc replacement to this list on steel brakes. Carbon ceramic disc and pad work goes to a Maserati dealer.

In Dubai conditions

What wears out Maserati brake pads and discs in Dubai?

Six causes wear down Maserati brake pads and discs in Dubai. A foot on the pedal, slow traffic and steep or sporty driving load them with heat and friction. Sand, hot spots on cast iron and heavy use of carbon ceramic brakes on an MC20 complete the list.

  • Riding the pedal: on a 2024 Ghibli, a foot resting on the brake pedal can bring abnormally high brake temperatures and excessive lining wear.
  • Slow traffic: on a 2024 Ghibli or Levante, or 2025 Grecale, Maserati rates long idling and low-speed driving as heavy-duty use, with earlier pad checks.
  • Steep descents and sports driving: both can overheat a 2024 Ghibli's brake parts, and the heat can bring squeals and vibrations.
  • Sand: on a 2024 Levante or 2025 Grecale, abrasive material in any part of the brakes can cause excessive wear.
  • Hot spots: once the high spots of a cast-iron disc pass 650 °C, the iron there changes into hard cementite.
  • Heavy traffic on carbon ceramic: a 2025 MC20's carbon ceramic brake parts wear significantly faster in heavy traffic or track use.

Dubai International Airport records 17.7 days of rising sand annually, while more than 3.5 million vehicles use the city's road network each day.

On a Ghibli or Quattroporte, Maserati reads hard use from a white pad edge, a glazed pad, clogged cooling holes, cracks or a bluish disc. We check every pad and disc we remove for those marks and replace any part that shows them.

In depth

The benefits of Maserati brake work done right

Our brake work gives a Maserati driver these results:

A Maserati that passes its RTA brake check

The RTA periodic test rates how well the parking brake performs, and a car renews its registration on a pass.

Sound discs left in service

Yellow or brown spots on a new Maserati disc come from its anti-rust and cleaning treatment, and they fade with use or bedding-in. Maserati advises against replacing a disc for them, so you pay for no disc that is still sound.

A calm pedal from speed

A disc of even thickness stops kicking the pads back and forth, so the pedal stays steady at every speed.

A firm pedal on long descents

Fresh fluid stays below its boiling point under hard braking, so no vapour bubbles form and the pedal keeps its feel.

Stops in a straight line

Contaminated pads, mismatched parts or a seized calliper can make a car pull under braking. With those three put right, it stops straight.

Pads that reach the next service

On a Ghibli or Quattroporte, Maserati designs each pad to outlast the first service interval. Pads matched to the car's brake size keep that design life.

In depth

Why do Maserati brakes squeal, and what fixes it?

Maserati brakes squeal from 2 sources: ambient conditions and worn or faulty parts. On a 2024 Ghibli, Maserati calls a squeal from speed, braking force, heat, humidity or long outdoor parking normal, fading over the next stops. A squeal that stays has a cause in the parts, and we repair that cause.

A Levante with the small brake system can turn noisy during long braking. Maserati's fix is a pair of new front calliper holding brackets, which shift the resonance frequency of the brakes. We fit the brackets on new screws at 185 Nm and tighten the calliper screws to 55 Nm.

On a Ghibli or Quattroporte, debris caught between pad and disc can mark and scratch the disc, with noise and abnormal wear as the result. We clear it out and replace any pad or disc it has damaged.

In depth

How does Maserati check carbon ceramic brakes?

Maserati carbon ceramic brakes, an option on the 2025 MC20, get a check in the Middle East service schedule. A CCB Disk Wear Indicator light marks discs at their wear limit, and the real pad and disc interval follows how the car is used. We refer carbon ceramic disc and pad work on these cars to a Maserati dealer.

On the MC20, MC20 Cielo and GT2 Stradale, carbon ceramic parts also oxidise. Oxidation shows as a copper-coloured layer on the disc or pad face. A disc change ends with the wear warning reset by diagnostic tool.

Prevention

How Royal Prince Auto Care replaces Maserati brake pads and discs

Our bay takes every Maserati brake job through these steps.

Drive the car and pull its stored faults

On a first drive we confirm the complaint, and steering or suspension wear is ruled out as its source. The diagnostic tool then lists faults stored by the brake and parking brake systems, and each one is repaired.

Measure the discs and pads

Every disc is read with a gauge in at least 4 spots, and the thinnest figure counts. On a Ghibli or Quattroporte, a 345 mm front disc is worn out at 26 mm and a 360 mm disc at 30 mm. A 380 mm disc ends at 32 mm and a front pad at 3.6 mm, and parts at those figures are replaced.

Switch the parking brake to service mode

We use a diagnostic tool for pad-changing mode, since winding back any electric parking brake piston damages its pressure nut or spindle. On a 2024 Ghibli with base brakes, the parking brake motor presses on the pads inside each rear calliper. A 2024 Ghibli with Dual Cast brakes carries a dedicated parking brake calliper on each rear disc.

Clean the hub and fit the discs

Each hub face is scraped clean of rust and dirt, because one 0.05 mm speck can tilt a disc by more than 0.1 mm. With the new disc on, we hold its runout within 0.10 mm per turn.

Fit the pads and wear sensors

New pads go in, and the electrical wear sensors are renewed with them every time.

Top up, calibrate and road-test

Pedal strokes bring the pads up to the discs, and the reservoir is topped up to MAX. We calibrate the electric parking brake, and a 2025 Grecale with its battery reconnected is initialised by lifting, releasing and lifting its lever. On the road test, the brakes get no stabs and no press held over 3 seconds.

Book by phone or WhatsApp with the Maserati model and any warning on its cluster.

Cost and value

What decides the cost of Maserati brake pads and disc replacement in Dubai?

Pads alone or pads with discs and the brake system set the cost of Maserati brake pads and disc replacement in Dubai. Rear parking brake steps and extra parts, such as a calliper, bracket or sensor harness, add to it. We price each job from the wear we measure.

Why Royal Prince

Why choose Royal Prince Auto Care for Maserati brake pads and disc replacement

Our Maserati brake method differs in these ways:

Pads left in Maserati's shape

Maserati develops Ghibli and Quattroporte pads to keep noise as low as possible and bars changing their shape. For a Levante with the small brake system, it bars chamfers, grease or chemicals on the pads. We keep to that rule.

The brake system read first

A base 2024 Ghibli runs 345 mm front and 330 mm rear discs. The 334 Ultima has drilled Dual Cast discs, 380 mm at the front. We identify the system on the car, then order discs and pads to suit.

Fluid from sealed containers

Fluid left in an open container draws in moisture, which drags its boiling point down. On a 2024 Ghibli, Maserati warns that mineral fluid damages the brake seals beyond repair. We pour synthetic fluid from new, sealed containers.

Boiling point tested

We test the boiling point of the fluid on every brake job and replace fluid that reads below 180 °C.

Wheel bolts torqued in sequence

Each wheel bolt gets its final torque from a torque wrench, in a crossing order, at the car maker's value.

Calliper fluid drained on a track MC20

For a 2025 MC20 used on track, Maserati calls for draining degraded fluid from the callipers at each pad change until light fluid runs. We follow that step on every 2025 MC20 that sees the track.

In Dubai conditions

Maserati brake service in Dubai: the lines we work on

We fit pads and discs to these Maserati lines, listed with Maserati's type codes where they have one:

  • Ghibli (M157)
  • Quattroporte (M156)
  • Levante (M161)
  • Grecale (M182)
  • Grecale Folgore
  • MC20 (M240)
  • MC20 Cielo
  • GranTurismo (M189)
  • GranCabrio (M190)

A 2025 Grecale or Grecale Modena brakes on 350 mm front and 330 mm rear discs. The Trofeo has drilled 360 mm and 350 mm discs. A 2025 GranTurismo runs drilled, ventilated discs of 380 mm at the front and 350 mm at the rear.

On a 2024 Quattroporte, the front discs measure 380 mm or 360 mm, with 350 mm at the rear. We match every cast-iron disc to the size and type on the car.

In Dubai conditions

How do you make Maserati brakes last longer in Dubai?

Six habits keep Maserati brakes in Dubai working longer. For the fluid, that means a 24-month change, a level check at each 1,000 km and, on an MC20, a fresh fill before track days. Pads and discs get a gentle start, a cool-down drive before parking and a clean after sand.

Fluid changed every 24 months

A 2025 Grecale Trofeo or GranTurismo has its brake fluid replaced every 24 months, whatever the km. The 2024 Ghibli MHEV schedule sets the same 24 months. We change the fluid at a brake job when it falls due.

A level check every 1,000 km

On a 2024 Ghibli, Maserati lists a brake fluid check every 1,000 km and before long journeys. Pad wear can lower the level, but a low level can also mean a leak, so a drop calls for a brake check.

Fresh fluid before an MC20 track day

A 2025 MC20 going on track carries brake fluid changed within the previous 12 months. Maserati also rules out track use during the break-in period.

A gentle start on new pads

New pads on a 2024 Ghibli reach full friction after hundreds of km, so press the pedal harder meanwhile. Avoid sudden braking for the first 300 km. A 2025 Grecale takes no sharp, repeated or long braking over its first 500 km.

A cool-down drive before parking

After steep descents or sports driving, drive on without braking for a while before stopping. On a 2024 Ghibli, hot brakes can leave the parking brake short of force. On a 2025 Grecale, MC20 or GranTurismo, the Brake Disk Temperature light means no heavy braking until it goes out.

A brake clean after sand

After a long drive in sand, have a 2024 Levante or 2025 Grecale checked, with every part the sand reached cleaned.

FAQs

Maserati Brake Pads and Discs questions, answered

Which brake fluid does a Maserati take?

DOT 4. The 2024 Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante and the 2025 Grecale, MC20 and GranTurismo all list DOT 4, filled no higher than the MAX mark. On the 2024 Ghibli, it is a synthetic fluid to ISO 4925 Class 4. We keep any lower DOT class out of the system.

Do Maserati discs need replacing at every pad change?

No. A disc above its minimum thickness takes new pads on its own. Once one disc on an axle reaches its minimum, we replace both discs on that axle together with new pads.

How long do Maserati brake pads last?

Maserati gives no km figure. On a 2024 Ghibli, pad and disc wear depends on driving style and conditions of use, so it cannot be expressed in km. The Brake Pads Wear light shows when the pads reach their limit.

Is a Maserati dealer needed for Maserati brake pads and disc replacement in Dubai?

No. Our DIP 2 workshop replaces pads and cast-iron discs on the Maserati lines above and sets the electric parking brake with a diagnostic tool. We refer carbon ceramic brake work, Maserati software updates and recall work to a Maserati dealer.
