A car with flood damage shows 6 signs. Inside the cabin, the driver finds a wet carpet, electrical faults, wiring that runs hot or an airbag warning lamp. On the road, the signs are an engine knock or rattle, and brakes that pull or stop late after the water.
A wet carpet with no standing water on the floor means water has reached the cabin. Toyota treats such a car as internally flooded. We open the body drain plugs at the rear corners of the cabin floor and in the spare wheel well to let the water out.
Toyota's fourth level, the lower edge of the dashboard, covers every harness, the junction and relay blocks, and the electrical parts under the bonnet. We test each failing circuit, then replace the corroded harness, junction block or relay block.
Corrosion raises the resistance of a joint, and that resistance turns current into heat. Toyota warns that this heat can lead to a fire. We find the hot connector or terminal with the circuit under load and replace it.
Toyota inspects the airbags, the seat belt pretensioners and their harnesses once water reaches the lower edge of the doors. We replace each SRS part with a damaged connector with a new part. A car that then needs the maker's SRS coding goes to its maker's dealer.
A knock or rattle is one of the engine checks Toyota runs on a car driven through flood water. The intake air filter, air box and piping are checked with it. We replace a wet air filter, clear the water from the intake, and repair the engine parts the water damaged.
Mazda warns CX-5 owners that wet brakes lengthen the stopping distance or pull the car to one side. Comprehensive cover is also called loss and damage insurance, and the insurer is responsible for the indemnity. Under the third-party policy, a natural disaster causes widespread damage and has a decision issued on it by the concerned authority in the State. An owner in dispute with the insurer can take the complaint to SANADAK, the financial and insurance ombudsman.

No. Toyota's rule is to leave a car with any water inside, or a wet carpet, unstarted until after the inspection. Mazda links flooded roads to short circuits and to engine damage from water absorption. Leave the ignition off and book a flood inspection.
No. Toyota's flood method states that a flooded car is not always repairable, and a car past repair is decommissioned. The water line, the type of water and the parts it reached decide the outcome. Our inspection shows which side of that line a car falls on.
No. A flooded hybrid or electric car carries high-voltage parts that its make's dealer handles, so we send the car on to that dealer. Toyota pulls a flooded hybrid's high-voltage service plug once the 12 V battery has been disconnected. It also lists hybrid batteries among the parts to replace after salt water.
Dubai Police issue a certificate for natural-disaster damage to a vehicle through their website and smart app. The owner attaches photos of the damaged car and needs no visit to a police station.
