What are the signs your Audi needs an oil change?
An Audi gives 4 oil signs: a service reminder, a low level, drips under the car and a recalled 2020 Q8 oil line. Dark oil is a fifth sign, and it misleads. We check each sign, then carry out the oil change or the repair it calls for.
A low Audi oil level reading
A level at or below the minimum mark calls for a top-up and a look at oil use. A change schedule exists to stop the oil ageing, not to cover consumption. We top up to the engine's VW standard, then trace the loss and repair it.
Fresh drips under the parked car
Oil spots on the ground point to a leak at the sump plug, the filter or a seal. We follow the drip back to the part that leaks and replace that part.

What breaks down Audi engine oil in Dubai?
Audi engine oil breaks down from 6 causes: short journeys, soot, dust and sand, heat, poor combustion and overfilling. Each one dilutes the oil, loads it with dirt, hardens its seals or turns it to mist. The km, the level and the driving pattern show us which causes apply to your car.
- Short journeys: Audi states that a car used for short journeys gathers condensation water and fuel in its engine oil.
- Soot: combustion soot gets into the oil and turns it dark.
- Dust and sand: grit that gets into the oil contaminates it and forms sludge.
- Heat: extreme heat dries out the rubber seals and gaskets that hold the oil in.
- Poor combustion: incomplete combustion or poor mixture formation lets fuel get into the engine oil.
- Overfilling: oil above the maximum mark immerses the crankshaft, which forms extra oil mist.
From June to August, mean daily highs at Dubai International Airport pass 40 °C, and the station logs 17.7 rising sand days annually. We replace the oil and the filter together, so the soot, sand and fuel leave with the old fill.

Which oil does my Audi need?
An Audi needs an engine oil that meets the VW oil standard listed for its engine, such as VW 504 00 or VW 508 00. The viscosity grade alone does not settle it, because Audi pairs each engine with a standard and a grade. We read that pairing for your engine and fill to it.
VW standards in force include VW 502 00, VW 505 00 and VW 511 00. Our check matches the number on the bottle to the engine's listing.

When do you need your Audi oil change?
Your Audi needs an oil change at the step the Audi Middle East schedule sets for distance or age. Audi Middle East's service booklet places its service steps every 15,000 km, from 15,000 to 120,000 km. Engine oil and the oil filter head its parts list, and the booklet states that intervals depend on distance and age.
We compare the km and the date of the last change with that schedule. The change then follows at the step the car has reached.

Read the km, history and level
We read the km, the date of the last change and the oil level before the drain plug comes out. Any leak found at this point is repaired with the change.
Clean round the plug and filter
Sand round an opening ends up inside the engine. Before anything opens, we clean the area round the drain plug, the filler cap and the filter.
Drain the oil and fit a new filter
The old oil drains from the sump while the old filter comes out. A new filter goes in its place.
Renew the Audi sump plug seal
Audi Middle East's booklet lists the sump plug or its O-ring as model dependent. We fit a new O-ring, or a new plug where the model calls for one.
Fill the oil in stages
Oil goes in up to the minimum mark first, then the engine runs until it builds oil pressure. The top-up to the maximum mark follows in 0.1 litre steps.
Check for leaks and reset the reminder
With the engine running, we check the plug and the filter for leaks. The service reminder is then reset for the next interval.

In summer, look at the oil level and under the car for oil leaks before you set off. We replace a seal that the heat has dried out.
Top up to the same VW standard
A top-up bottle carries a VW number, and it must match the one your engine lists. We keep to that number when we top up a car between changes.
Stop at the maximum mark
A top-up that passes the maximum mark leaves the oil level too high. We drain the excess when a car arrives overfilled.
Keep a record of each change
A record of the km and the date shows when the next distance or age step falls due. We note both, with the VW standard, on each job card.

Does an Audi oil change in Dubai include the gearbox oil?
No. The oil change covers the engine oil and filter. Audi Middle East's service booklet lists S tronic and multitronic gearbox oil every 60,000 km as a separate item. We change that oil as its own job when the car reaches the step.
Can any 5W-30 oil go in my Audi?
No. The oil needs the VW standard Audi lists for the engine as well as the grade. A 5W-30 bottle without that VW number does not meet the listing. We check the number before the fill.
Does the oil filter need changing at every Audi oil change?
Yes. Particles of soot or dust make used oil abrasive, so changing the oil alone is not enough. We fit a new filter at every oil change.
