Worn Audi brake pads or discs show 6 signs: a wear warning, squeal, grinding, judder, a pull and a soft pedal. Each card below gives the cause and the repair we carry out. Drivers also describe Audi brake noise as a squeak, groaning, thumping or creaking.
The warning lights once the pad wears down to the contact embedded in it, at the wear limit. We replace the pads on that axle as a set.
An acoustic wear indicator is a steel tab on the pad that rubs the disc once the lining reaches its limit. That screech calls for new pads, and we fit them to both wheels of the axle.
Grinding means the friction material is gone and the backing plate is cutting into the disc. We renew the pads, and a disc scored with deep circular grooves is renewed with them.
Judder comes from a disc whose thickness varies around the ring, by as little as 0.015 mm on certain cars. The pads ride into the thin sections and are pushed back by the thick ones. We measure the variation and the runout, then fit new discs.
A pull under braking comes from contaminated pads, mismatched parts or a calliper that sticks. We renew the faulty part and fit matched parts on both sides of the axle.
A pedal that sinks towards the floor signals low fluid or air trapped in the lines. We find the leak at its hose, line or calliper, replace that part and bleed the system.
Each of these jobs is part of an Audi brake pads and disc replacement in our workshop:
We judge each axle on its own measurements, because rear pads can last twice as long as the fronts.
Audi brake pads and discs wear out in Dubai for 6 reasons. Traffic, hot spots and fade wear down the friction faces. Sand, standing time and seized pins spoil the contact between pad and disc, and noise, judder or uneven pad wear follows.
More than 3.5 million vehicles use Dubai's roads daily. Dubai International Airport logs rising sand on 17.7 days in its annual average. We clean sand and rust off the calliper carrier and pad seats, and replace any calliper whose pins have seized.
Correct brake work on your Audi, as we carry it out, gives you these results.
Matched parts on both sides and callipers that slide freely brake each wheel with equal force, so the car holds its line.
Your Audi goes to its RTA test with the service brake and parking brake in the condition the test checks.
The cluster warns you again when these pads reach their limit.
Fluid that has not taken on water boils at a higher temperature, so vapour bubbles do not form and soften the pedal.
Pads renewed before the backing plate reaches the disc leave its braking surface without scoring.
An e-tron GT that stays on tungsten carbide-coated discs keeps their low wear and low brake dust, and the coating stops flash rust.
A Q5 that squeals from cold front brakes at the first stop of a humid morning has a noise Audi has documented. Audi's fix is front pads with a new compound. The fix covers Q5 cars with 2.0 or 3.0 engines and 320 mm or 345 mm front discs, but not the SQ5 or hybrid.
The fix renews the front and rear pads. Old shims glued to the pad backs stay off the new pads, the pistons are cleaned and dried, and no lubricant touches pads or callipers. Full pedal pressure for at least 10 seconds seats the adhesive backing, and the glue sets before the car moves.
The pads bed in with 10 stops at medium pedal pressure and a cooling drive, never with ABS stops. Audi pairs the fix with an ABS and ESP software update for the new compound. We fit and bed in the pads to this procedure, then pass the car to an Audi dealer for the update.
Yes. An Audi with an electric parking brake needs a diagnostic tool to set a pad-changing mode, so the motor winds each rear piston back. On an A8 from 2017, for example, the rear callipers carry the electromechanical parking brake.
Audi's electromechanical parking brake also works as an emergency brake, slowing the car through the service brake with ESP.
A piston turned back by hand, the way a cable handbrake allows, ruins the spindle or pressure nut behind it. Grease and copper paste stay off these callipers unless the calliper maker calls for them. Our technicians wind the pistons back with the tool, fit the pads, then calibrate the parking brake.
Our technicians work through these steps on every Audi.
A short road test with the complaint in mind tells brake noise apart from worn suspension parts. Next comes a scan of the brake and parking brake control units, and we clear each fault by repairing its cause.
A disc gauge reads thickness in at least 4 places, and the lowest reading counts for the whole disc. That figure is set against MIN TH, the minimum the car maker stamps on the disc in millimetres. Any disc at or under it is replaced.
The reservoir level climbs as the pistons retract, so it is watched throughout. A multi-piston fixed calliper, such as the 10-piston front unit on an RS Q8, has all its pistons retracted together. Worn seals, dust boots and slide guides are renewed, and the guides are greased with the type the calliper maker names.
Rust or dirt on the hub face tilts the disc. A speck of rust 0.05 mm across can cause more than 0.1 mm of runout. With the hub face clean, the new disc must run within 0.10 mm per turn, and we refit it until it does.
We fit the pads to both callipers on the axle.
The pedal is pressed until it moves properly, and the fluid level is corrected before the car moves. The final road test avoids stabbing the pedal or holding it for more than 3 seconds. Any noise or vibration we hear on it is traced and fixed.

The cost of Audi brake pads and disc replacement in Dubai comes down to 5 factors. They are pads alone or with discs, cast-iron or carbide-coated discs, rear parking brake work, fluid condition and any extra worn part. We set each factor from our own measurements.
This is what sets our Audi brake method apart.
Audi lists 7 common causes of brake noise, from pads at their wear limit to pad marks on the disc. We rule each one out, then replace the part at fault.
Every Audi brake job includes a fluid boiling point check, and we replace fluid that boils below 180 °C.
Heat takes the temper out of pad springs, so new ones go in with every pad set, and old shims stay out.
Pads, discs and calliper surfaces stay clear of grease, oil and degreaser, and a contaminated part is renewed.
A torque wrench brings every wheel bolt to the car maker's value, in the right tightening sequence.
A removed calliper hangs on a support so its flexible hose never stretches, and no brake hose is clamped.
We service the brakes on these Audi model lines, with the platform code where Audi states one:
Audi brakes in Dubai last longer through 6 owner habits. The habits are fluid on Audi's interval, clean discs, short moves when parked, controlled descents, gentle bedding-in and a yearly pad check. We measure pads and discs whenever we service an Audi, and replace any part at its limit.
Audi Middle East sets a brake fluid change every 24 months.
Wheel cleaner sprayed straight onto a disc leaves chemical spots and discolouration on its braking surface. Spray the wheel and keep the disc clear.
Once a week, roll a standing Audi a short distance forwards and back, braking gently, so rust does not build on the discs.
Shift down on long descents so the engine holds the car back. On a Q8 e-tron with shift paddles, they select 3 levels of regenerative braking.
Treat new pads and discs gently for at least 200 km, with no sudden stops longer than 3 seconds and no ABS activation. A procedure from the car maker overrides this.
Have the pads and discs checked for wear at least every 12 months or at each service. Audi Middle East includes that wear test in its car check.

Audi ceramic brake discs last up to 300,000 km, thanks to their high abrasion resistance. Their surface does not rust, and their friction stays stable in heat and wet. A carbon ceramic disc loses about 1.25 per cent of its weight over its life, so weight shows wear. We refer carbon ceramic disc and pad work to an Audi dealer.
No. New pads can go onto a disc that is still above its stamped minimum and shows no cracks, blue spots or deep scoring. Discs come due at about every second pad change. When one disc on the axle fails, we replace both discs together with new pads.
Yes. They wear slowly: a Q8 e-tron leaves its disc brakes unused in 90 percent of braking situations. Up to 0.3 g, it recuperates through its electric motors alone. Discs used this rarely are prone to corrosion. We replace a disc that rust has pitted, along with its axle partner and new pads.
Yes. The electrical wear contacts are replaced every time the pads are. A brake system carries 2 or 4 of them, depending on its design, and we fit a new contact at each position.
No. We replace pads, cast-iron and carbide-coated discs and callipers, and run the electric parking brake service mode in our Dubai Investment Park 2 workshop. Audi software updates, such as the ABS and ESP update in the Q5 squeal fix, go to an Audi dealer.
