A Jaguar gearbox fault shows 6 signs: a fault message, limp-home mode, oil leaks, a Traction Reduced warning, judder on lock and a differential leak. The models differ from sign to sign, and each sign below ends with the repair we carry out.
On an F-PACE, XE or XF, a Gearbox fault message and a flashing D can follow an ECO stop/start event. JLR traces it to control unit software or the mechatronic valve block of the 8HP45 or 8HP70 gearbox. We clear its stored codes, run an adaptation drive to 3 counts per clutch, and replace the valve block when the fault returns.
On an XE or XF (X260), a transmission fault brings a warning message and reduced performance, and can leave fewer gears available. Certain faults can also lock the rotary selector in place until the ignition is switched off. We trace the electrical or mechanical failure behind it and repair that part.
JLR has documented 8HP45 and 8HP75 oil leaks at the sump on the XJ, XF (X260), XE, F-TYPE and F-PACE. The oil cooler pipes, the output shaft seal and the electrical plug can leak too. We degrease the area, find the leak with tracer spray once the gearbox is warm, then replace the pan or reseal the joint.
An all-wheel-drive F-PACE, XE or XF can show a Traction Reduced warning and run in 2-wheel drive, with codes in the transfer case control module. JLR traces it to the transfer case actuator, or, on an F-PACE or XE, to an internal pump failure. We check the actuator serial number and replace an early-series actuator, while the transfer case itself stays in the car.
On an F-PACE, XE or XF, transfer case locking torque can wind up the driveline and cause judder with the steering turned at low speed. JLR's fix is new ABS module software, not a driveline part. We confirm the transfer case is sound and pass the car to a Jaguar dealer, which loads the update.
JLR has recorded rear differential oil leaks from the pinion seal on the XE, XF (X250 and X260), XJ, F-PACE and F-TYPE. JLR puts the leak down to part quality. We fit a new pinion seal and refill the differential to its level.

Jaguar transmission failure in Dubai stems from 6 causes: heat, the wrong fluid, hard use, unknown history, running dry and coolant in the fluid. Each one ages or harms the oil that cools the gearbox, protects it from contamination and carries its control pressure. Every cause below has its own repair from us.
Every day from June to October reaches a maximum of 30 °C or more at Dubai airport. JLR tested the F-PACE in Dubai, where the shade temperature can pass 50 °C. We choose the repair from the cause we find.

Limp-home mode on an XE or XF (X260) disables the steering wheel paddles. With the fault repaired, manual changes through the paddles return.
On an XE or XF (X260), S holds the lower gears for longer and lifts mid-range performance. A healthy gearbox gives that response each time you select S.
In D, a quick press of the accelerator to full travel brings rapid acceleration on an XE or XF (X260). Normal shifting resumes as soon as you ease off.
Intelligent Driveline Dynamics on the 2020 F-PACE gives rear-biased handling and varies torque between the axles almost instantly. A sound transfer case keeps that split working.
On the 2020 F-PACE, each drive mode adapts the steering, transmission and throttle. A gearbox with no stored faults responds to each mode change.
Fluid aged at high temperature can alter the friction material of the converter clutch and bring on shudder. Fresh fluid takes that cause away.
Yes. On the XE, XF (X260), XJ, F-TYPE and F-PACE, the 8HP 8-speed automatic takes an oil change at the 150,000 km mark. High temperatures and heavy loads make an earlier change sensible, so that distance marks the latest change, not the target.
Average daily highs at Dubai airport reach 40.3, 41.5 and 41.9 °C from June to August, which puts a Dubai Jaguar in the high-temperature case. We change the 8HP fluid at 150,000 km, or earlier for a car that spends its summers in that heat.
No. JLR rules out towing an XE or XF (X260) on all 4 wheels, or with the front or rear wheels raised. Either method can cause serious transmission damage, so the car travels on a transporter or trailer after the recovery agent activates the park release.
The F-TYPE carries the same ban on towing with all 4 wheels on the ground, and its park release lets it roll onto the transporter. We inspect the gearbox and fluid of any Jaguar that was towed on its wheels, and repair the damage we find.
Each Jaguar gearbox job runs through these steps:
On an F-PACE, XE or XF, the gearbox control module stores its own codes, including a warning lamp request. A generic reader sees that request alone, so we read the gearbox and transfer case modules directly and repair what their codes show.
We take the car out to bring on the complaint, then drive it again after the repair to confirm the fault has gone.
Burnt-smelling oil, or oil with chips or metal fragments in it, signals internal damage. The pan magnet shows how much wear material the oil has collected, and we weigh both before choosing the repair.
On a metal pan, the filter and sealing ring are renewed on their own. A plastic pan carries both inside it, so we replace the whole pan.
The torque converter takes up its oil while the engine runs at 2,000 rpm for 30 seconds after the first fill.
On the 8HP, the level is right when fluid just runs from the filler hole, engine running, at 40 °C fluid temperature or less. We fill to that point.

What sets our Jaguar gearbox method apart:
JLR issues its gearbox fixes by model code, from X260 for the XF to X761 for the F-PACE. We confirm the code on the car before naming a cause.
On the 2020 E-PACE, the 2.0 litre all-wheel-drive versions use a 9-speed automatic and the 1.5 litre versions an 8-speed. We confirm which gearbox is fitted before choosing fluid or parts.
The 2020 XE and XF come with rear- or all-wheel drive. We check whether a transfer case is fitted before any driveline work.
The F-PACE P400e pairs its 2.0 litre engine with a 105 kW electric motor. The E-PACE P300e drives its rear axle with an 80 kW motor. We confirm the powertrain before gearbox work begins.
An automatic gearbox takes no supplementary additive or cleaning agent. We add none to a Jaguar gearbox, before or after a fluid change.
An XE or XF (X260) rotary selector that fails to rise at engine start no longer selects P by itself at switch-off. We repair the selector so it rises and parks the car once more.

A Jaguar transmission in Dubai lasts longer with 4 habits. The first 3 cover how you stop, idle and select a gear, as JLR sets them out for the XE and XF (X260). The fourth is a timely transmission oil change service, which we carry out.
On an XF (X260), selecting P while moving, R while rolling forwards or a forward gear while rolling back can cause serious transmission damage. Bring the car to a stop first.
On an XE, use P or N for a prolonged idle, and never stand with a drive gear engaged. On an XF (X260), JLR asks for N with the electric parking brake applied.
Hold the engine at idle speed as you select D or R, and whenever the car stands in gear. JLR links higher revs at these moments to serious transmission damage on the XF (X260).
Oil changes apply to every type of automatic gearbox, including hybrid units, whose built-in motors place special demands on the oil. Book the change on the age of the fluid, not on a fault.

No. Fault reading, leak repair, fluid and filter work, adaptation drives, actuators and pinion seals are workshop jobs. Each is a job for our Dubai Investment Park 2 workshop. JLR software updates stay with Jaguar retailers, which the UAE network keeps providing.
On an XE or XF (X260), a flashing gear status means the gearbox cannot engage the gear you asked for. Select N and then the gear again. When it still refuses, the gearbox has a fault, and we repair it.
The amber lamp marks an emissions-related fault in the engine or the transmission on an XE, XF (X260) or F-TYPE. The car still drives, but it can drop into limp-home mode, with reduced performance. A flashing lamp calls for lower speed and urgent attention, and we trace and repair the fault.
On an XE, the rotary selector moves to P before it retracts when you switch off in any other gear. Switching off in N delays the change to P, to allow a car wash. The N delay is not meant for vehicle recovery.
The oil in the pan decides it. Its analysis shows whether an oil change, an oil rinse or an exchange unit fits the damage found. We inspect that oil to find which of these routes fits.
