A Jaguar that needs new brake pads or discs shows 6 signs. Four are dash warnings: Brake Pads Worn (XE), an amber lamp (XF), a red BRAKE lamp and a blinking parking brake lamp. Two are felt: grinding after the car has stood and judder under braking.
On an XE (X760), a yellow BRAKE lamp with the message Brake Pads Worn signals worn brake components. The same lamp without a message means a fault in the brake wear system. We fit new pads at their limit, or repair the wear circuit when the pads still have material.
On an XF (X260), an amber BRAKE lamp after start-up or while driving signals worn brake pads or an Emergency Brake Assist fault. We replace pads that have reached their limit, and otherwise repair the Emergency Brake Assist fault the car has logged.
On an F-TYPE (X152), the red BRAKE lamp with the message Brake Fluid Low means the car stays parked until the fluid is checked. On an XE or XF, unusually long pedal travel or a large fluid loss can mean longer stopping distances or complete brake failure. We find the leaking hose, pipe or calliper, replace it and bleed the circuit.
On an XE, XF or F-TYPE, the red parking brake lamp flashing means the system has found a fault during a parking brake operation. Outside an operation, the same kind of fault lights the amber BRAKE lamp and shows a message. We repair the parking brake part at fault or replace it.
JLR links grinding or judder to corrosion on the disc faces of a stored or little-used E-PACE, F-PACE, F-TYPE, XE, XF or XJ. Heavy corrosion with grinding calls for new discs. We replace the heavily corroded discs and leave lightly marked ones in service.
Judder through the brake pedal or steering wheel can start from a disc thickness variation of 0.015 mm. We measure each disc for thickness variation and replace the discs that are out of limit.

Six causes wear out Jaguar brake pads and discs in Dubai, half of them heat and traffic: city driving, hot spots and glazed pads. Seized slide pins, arduous use and a calliper left partly applied complete the list.
Over 3.5 million vehicles a day use Dubai's road network, and each stop in that traffic wears the pads. We read the wear pattern on every pad we remove. When a pad has worn to a taper, we release the calliper behind it or replace it.

The RTA periodic test in Dubai rates parking brake performance and efficiency, and a calibrated electric parking brake meets that check.
Grinding under braking means the friction material has gone. Fresh pads fitted in time keep every stop quiet.
A disc of even thickness does not push the pads back and forth, so no pulse reaches the pedal.
Fluid that passes its boiling point test stays liquid under hard use, so no vapour forms in the lines to soften the pedal.
A disc above its minimum thickness keeps its full heat capacity and mechanical strength under hard braking.
Matched pads and freely moving callipers on both sides of an axle brake evenly, so the car holds its line.
A Jaguar rear brake job needs a diagnostic tool on the XE (X760), XF (X260) and F-TYPE (X152). Each has an electric parking brake on the rear wheels, worked by a switch. An electric parking brake enters its pad-changing mode through the tool, and the tool calibrates it after the repair.
Turning the rear piston back by hand, the method for a cable handbrake, damages the pressure nut or spindle inside an electric calliper. Our technicians retract each rear piston through the tool and run the calibration as the last step of the job.
Each Jaguar brake job in our workshop follows these 6 steps.
A road drive confirms the reported noise, judder or pull. A look at the steering and suspension parts beside the brakes rules them in or out. In the bay, we read the stored brake faults with the diagnostic tool.
Each disc is measured in 4 places or more around its face, and the thinnest reading counts against the minimum stamped on the disc. Pad friction material on both axles is measured at the same time.
We check that each piston and slide guide moves freely and that its seal is intact. Fresh grease of the type the vehicle or calliper maker names goes on the guides.
We clean rust and dirt off the hub face down to bare metal first. A rust particle of 0.05 mm can push the disc out of true by more than 0.1 mm. Each new disc then shows no more than 0.10 mm runout per revolution.
Both callipers on the axle get new pads, and every pad gets a new electrical wear contact. As the pistons retract, the reservoir level rises, and we keep it in view.
On an XE or XF, Jaguar reserves a top-up to the MAX mark for a pad change. This step fills to MAX with fresh fluid from a sealed container. On the last road test, no stop lasts over 3 seconds while noise and vibration are checked.

Pads and discs are ordered by chassis number, so the parts follow the car's original specification.
Brake heat removes the spring temper from pad springs and anti-rattle clips, so both are renewed, and a used shim is never refitted.
No grease or oil touches the pads or discs, and any part that picks up contamination is replaced.
A torque wrench brings each wheel nut to the car maker's figure, tightened in the right sequence.
A recall in Qatar covered the 2014 to 2015 XJ, to install brake pipes that meet safety standards. We inspect the brake pipes on those XJ cars, and any open recall goes to a Jaguar retailer.

Jaguar introduced Carbon Ceramic Matrix brakes on the F-TYPE. We confirm the disc type from the car's build before ordering, and refer carbon ceramic disc and pad work to a Jaguar retailer.
Jaguar brakes in Dubai keep working longer through 6 owner habits. Three protect the fluid and wet brakes: timely fluid changes, weekly level checks and drying after water. Three protect the hardware: drives for a parked car, no braking on the parking brake and a gentle bedding-in.
Jaguar lists a brake fluid change every 36 months, whatever the distance, on XF, XJ and XK cars from 13MY on. Between changes, fluid that tests below 180 °C on our boiling point tester gets replaced.
On an XE or XF, the brake fluid level is checked on level ground at least every week. High mileage or arduous use calls for shorter gaps. The level drops slightly as pads wear, but it is never left below the MIN mark.
On an XE, XF or F-TYPE that has driven through heavy rain or water, light and intermittent presses of the pedal dry the brakes.
An E-PACE, F-PACE, F-TYPE, XE, XF or XJ that stands unused keeps its discs cleaner with normal drives that use the brakes. Moderate braking from 50 to 56 km/h, without coasting or engine braking, suits that drive.
On an XE, XF or F-TYPE, slowing the car with the electric parking brake, or moving off with it on, can seriously damage the brakes.
Fresh pads and discs bed in by the car maker's method. Where none is given, drive at least 200 km with gentle braking, no stops over 3 seconds and no ABS activation.

No. Jaguar in the UAE lists brake pads among wear and tear items, worn out mainly by how the car is braked. They count as consumables outside Jaguar's cover. We replace them as an axle set once they reach their limit.
Yes. An XF (X260) with the amber lamp lit is still drivable with care and without heavy braking, though Jaguar advises qualified help urgently. Our check covers pad thickness and the Emergency Brake Assist fault, and we then fit new pads or repair the fault.
A Jaguar XE (X760) takes Jaguar brake fluid. When Jaguar fluid is not to hand for a top-up, the XE takes a DOT4 fluid of low viscosity meeting ISO 4925 class 6. The XF (X260) and F-TYPE (X152) list DOT4 fluid to ISO 4925. We never fill a lower DOT class than the one listed.
No. Jaguar pads, cast-iron discs and electric parking brakes are serviced at our Dubai Investment Park 2 workshop, using a diagnostic tool where needed. Carbon ceramic brake work and work under a JLR recall go to a Jaguar retailer.
No. Fresh pads can go onto discs that still measure above their stamped minimum. Once a disc reaches that minimum, both discs on the axle are replaced and new pads go in with them.
