A failing Jaguar engine shows 6 signs, starting with an overheating message and a low coolant warning. Next come oil at the front of an Ingenium diesel and air leak codes on a V6 or V8. The last 2 are fuel pump noise on an AJ126 V6 and a hot F-PACE that fails to start.
On the XE, the engine temperature lamp lights when the engine runs too hot, and the message centre shows ENGINE OVERHEATING. An XF (X260) that overheats can lose engine power, and its air conditioning can stop to ease the load.
Our technicians trace the overheat to the hose, pump, fan or thermostat that failed and replace that part.
JLR is investigating thermostats on the AJ20-P4 Ingenium petrol that leak coolant. Cars arrive with a visible leak or a low coolant warning, at times with code P0128 stored.
This fault covers the E-PACE, F-PACE, F-TYPE, XE and XF (X260). Once a leak is proven at the thermostat, we swap it for a new part.
On the AJ20-D4 Ingenium diesel, the timing chain cover plug can work loose over time and leak oil. JLR traced the fault to the surface finish of the white plugs, which stops them sealing.
The fault covers the E-PACE, F-PACE, XE and XF (X260). We replace the white plug with JLR's modified part, which is black.
On the 3.0 litre V6 and 5.0 litre V8 petrol, the diaphragm in the right-hand camshaft cover pressure control valve can split. Air then leaks in, and the PCM can store P2187, P2189, P0505 or P0507.
JLR names the F-PACE, F-TYPE, XE, XF (X250 and X260) and XJ (X351). Its lower-level kit holds the diaphragm and the valve cover, so the whole camshaft cover no longer needs replacing. We fit that kit.
A Jaguar with the AJ126 supercharged V6 can make noise from its high-pressure fuel pumps or light the check engine lamp. JLR lists the F-PACE, F-TYPE, XE, XF (X260) and XJ (X351), and its investigation into the cause continues.
JLR asks for each case to reach it with a sound file and a session file. We therefore pass the car to a Jaguar dealer.
JLR has found hot F-PACE P6 engines that crank and still fail to start. It traced them to oil services that fitted filters missing 2 O-rings. Without them, oil pressure drops or the CVVL stops working.
We fit a filter to JLR's specification and change the oil again to the correct JLR grade, as JLR advises.

Six causes lie behind Jaguar engine failure in Dubai. Heat and sand load the cooling system and the turbo, and soiled radiator fins add to the heat. A weak coolant mix, oil outside JLR's specification and an overfilled sump complete the list.
In August, the average daily high in Dubai reaches 41.9 °C, and the city logs 17.7 days of rising sand annually. JLR ran F-PACE heat tests in the city, where the shade can pass 50 °C. Our tests show which of these causes applies, and we repair that one.

With the leaking thermostat or housing replaced, the coolant stays at its mark and the low coolant warning stays off.
A sound cooling system keeps an XF (X260) clear of the overheat that can cost it power.
Clean radiator fins shed heat freely. Soiled fins weaken air conditioning performance, so clean ones keep the cabin cooler.
A sealed timing chain cover plug keeps oil inside the AJ20-D4 and off your parking space.
With the split diaphragm renewed, the intake stays sealed and the air leak codes stay out of the fault memory.
With the right filter in place, a hot P6 holds its oil pressure and starts after a stop in the heat.
A Jaguar keeps losing coolant when a thermostat housing leaks at its seam or when air stays trapped after a refill. Both faults sit on named Jaguar engines, listed below. Trapped air leaves the level short, so the warning lights or the engine overheats.
On the AJ126 V6, the coolant leak starts at the thermostat housing seam. JLR lists the F-TYPE (X152), the XF (X250 and X260) and the XJ (X351). We replace the leaking housing.
On the E-PACE (X540) with an AJ20 engine, air can stay trapped in the circuit after a coolant pump renewal. The level then settles below the MIN mark on the move and sets the low coolant warning.
An AJ133 5.0 litre V8 in the XF (X250), XJ (X351) or XK (X150) can overheat after a drain and refill done the wrong way. The engine is left short of coolant. We fill and bleed each circuit by JLR's procedure for its engine, with a vacuum fill where that procedure calls for it.
The steps below run in order, and the fault picks the tests:
We note the message on the display and the engine fitted. Then we note when the fault shows: cold, hot, at idle or under load.
Every stored code is read with the data saved beside it. Those codes decide which of the next tests the engine gets.
After a coolant loss, the system is held under pressure. A falling gauge confirms a leak and the wet joint shows where, and we replace the part that leaks.
Oil floating in the expansion tank marks a leak at the head gasket or the oil cooler. We find which of the 2 leaks, then renew it.
A compression test shows the weak cylinder. Bubbles at the radiator during a leak-down test mark the head gasket. We then renew that gasket.
With the part replaced, we clear every code and drive the Jaguar under the conditions from the first step. A final read of the fault memory confirms the fix.

A new turbocharger goes on with a fresh air filter and charge-air cooler, plus an oil and filter change. On an AJ126 V6, a severe overheat can damage the thermostat too, and JLR has every other cause of the overheat repaired. We price the work from the test result.

JLR writes its engine fixes for one engine family at a time: AJ20-P4, AJ20-D4, AJ126, AJ133 or P6. We confirm the family before the first test.
On an AJ20-P4 with a small fresh leak, JLR has the fresh leak cleaned off and the car driven, then checked again. A thermostat the checks clear stays in, and we look at the rest of the circuit instead.
An F-TYPE takes half water and half orange antifreeze to WSS M97B44. We refill each Jaguar with the mix listed for its engine.
We replace the part that leaks and never pour radiator sealant into the coolant of a Jaguar.
Foreign matter and contaminants stay in the coolant after a cooling part is replaced. We flush the whole circuit to clear them.
A turbo repair succeeds once the cause of the failure is found and removed. We remove that cause before a replacement unit goes on.

The F-PACE SVR 575 Edition sold in the UAE has a 5.0 litre engine.
The 2020 E-PACE line-up holds 2.0 litre four-cylinder and 1.5 litre three-cylinder engines. On the F-TYPE, the 3.0 litre V6 displaces 2,995 cc and the 5.0 litre V8 5,000 cc.
A Jaguar engine lasts longer in Dubai when its owner keeps 4 habits. Keep to JLR's UAE service schedule, check the oil weekly, renew the coolant on time and drive gently from cold. We set each next service point by the use the car sees.
JLR's UAE schedule sets a Jaguar service at 13,000 km or 12 months, by whichever arrives first.
JLR asks owners of the XE, XF and F-TYPE to check the oil once a week. A sudden drop in level calls for qualified help.
For the XF, XJ and XK from the 2013 models on, JLR sets new coolant once a decade or at 260,000 km.
Revving a cold engine hard can tear away the oil film in the turbocharger. Hold a light throttle until the engine is warm.
