An Alfa Romeo transmission problem shows 5 signs. They are the gearbox failure symbol, the fluid overheating symbol, a car held in 4th gear, an AWD warning and a service transmission light. Each card below pairs the sign with the fix we make for it.
On a MY24 Giulia or Tonale, this symbol and a buzzer mark a faulty automatic transmission. It also lights for about 10 seconds when the lever rests between two gears, then clears once the gear engages. A symbol that stays lit sends us to the gearbox codes, and we repair the part or circuit they name.
A MY24 Giulia shows this symbol when its automatic transmission overheats after demanding use, and engine power is limited. Alfa Romeo has the driver wait at idle, or with the engine off, until it clears. A symbol that returns gets a level and leak check from us, then we seal any leak and correct the fill.
A Giulia that senses a risk of transmission damage enters emergency mode and holds 4th gear, while P, R and N keep working. Alfa Romeo's reset for a temporary fault is to stop, select P, switch off, wait about 10 seconds and restart. We trace and repair what set off emergency mode when the car stays in 4th after that reset.
An AWD Giulia has one symbol for an all-wheel drive failure and another for a temporary shutdown under high engine load. During that shutdown it drives on its rear wheels until the system cools and the symbol clears. A failure message that keeps returning calls for maintenance, and we read the AWD fault, check the driveline oils, then repair the cause.
On an 8-speed Giulia (GA) or Stelvio (GU), this light can come with codes P07E4, P1DB2, P0716, P1B14, P0733, P1D90, P1DB7 or P1B13. For these codes, Stellantis puts a valve body replacement before any gearbox replacement. We read and record the codes, and Alfa Romeo dealers handle the valve body work.

In manual mode, a Giulia keeps the driver's gear until safety conditions call for a change. It downshifts by itself when engine speed falls too low, so the engine keeps running.
In normal operation, the gearbox of a MY24 Alfa Romeo Giulia or Stelvio needs no fluid change. The transfer case of an AWD Giulia or Stelvio follows a fixed interval, and so does the nine-speed of the Tonale 2.0 T4. We carry out both interval jobs, along with the fluid changes the causes above call for.
A MY24 Stelvio has its transfer case oil due at each 120,000 km or 96 months, as on the AWD Giulia. The Tonale 2.0 T4 nine-speed receives fresh oil plus a fresh oil filter at 240,000 km.

We note the symbol on the display and when it lit: cold or hot, in traffic, on a slope or under load.
The gearbox's control unit records its faults in a memory of its own and has the engine unit light the warning lamp. We read that gearbox memory, not the lamp request alone.
Fluid escapes at the pan, the seals or the cooler lines. Our technician finds the leak point and seals it before the refill.
Metal fragments or chips in the drained fluid mean internal damage, and wear particles gather on the pan magnet. Stellantis links a fine metallic trace in the 8-speed fluid to normal wear. Internal damage is a job for an Alfa Romeo dealer.
With the engine running, we set the level through the filler hole at the fluid temperature specified for the gearbox. Overfilling and underfilling both damage it.
Stored codes are erased, then the car is driven through each gear. The job closes once no symbol comes back.

The 8-speed fluid in a Giulia or Stelvio smells burnt by nature, from its additive formula. We judge the gearbox on its codes and its drained fluid, never on odour.
Above its normal temperature limits, a Giulia gearbox can change its gear engagement order and cut drive torque until it cools. We let it cool before we judge its shifts.
On a MY24 Giulia, the rear differential takes SAE 75W-85 to 9.55550-DA9, and the FAD unit SAE 75W-80 API GL-5 to 9.55550-DA10. The AWD transfer case takes SAE 75W to 9.55550-DA11. Each unit gets its own grade from us.
After the refill, a 30-second hold at 2,000 rpm fills the torque converter. The engine is never started on a dry gearbox.
Alfa Romeo developed the Giulia AWD system and its original tyres together, and advises against a large wear gap between front and rear tyres. We compare tread wear across both axles before an AWD repair.
On a Tonale Mild Hybrid, the electric motor is built into the electrified dual-clutch gearbox and fed by the 48 V battery. Its gearbox oil is due every 60,000 km or 72 months, and we refer that change to an Alfa Romeo dealer.

A MY24 Stelvio takes 9.11 litres with the 2.9 V6 and 9.3 litres with the 2.0 T4. The nine-speed of a Tonale 2.0 T4 holds 6.0 litres.
The life of an Alfa Romeo transmission in Dubai stretches with 4 habits that Alfa Romeo sets out for its MY24 cars. They are AutoStick under load, N during long stops, the brake on ramps and a prompt leak check. For the 4th habit, our leak inspection covers the whole gearbox, and we seal any leak found.
With a heavy load, on slopes, into a strong headwind or with a heavy trailer, select AutoStick and hold a lower gear. Alfa Romeo says this prevents overheating, and on the Tonale it extends the transmission's life.
Select N and apply the electric parking brake during a long stop with the engine running, as Alfa Romeo advises for the Giulia.
On a Tonale with a dual-clutch gearbox, never balance the car with the accelerator on a slope. The clutch overheats and can be damaged, so use the brake pedal or the electric parking brake.
Alfa Romeo asks for an immediate check when fluid leaks or the gearbox works irregularly. Book one at the first spot of fluid under the car.
