Six signs mark a failing Toyota battery. Smart entry stops unlocking, a hybrid shows no READY light, a Crown cannot shift or a Fortuner skips engine stops. Power messages and an out-of-range voltmeter complete the list, and those last 2 can also come from a charging fault, which we test as well.
On a Camry, Hilux, Land Cruiser FJ, Corolla Hybrid or Crown, smart entry can fail to unlock the doors once the battery is discharged. The wireless remote or the mechanical key still opens the car. Our test then decides: a failed battery gets a replacement, and one that passes gets a recharge.
Left standing long enough, a Corolla Hybrid or Crown discharges its 12 V battery, and the hybrid system then fails to start. Toyota states that the hybrid system cannot be push-started. We recharge that 12 V battery, and a failed health test gets it replaced.
A discharged 12 V battery on a Crown can block shifting out of the current position. The front wheels then stay locked, and a tow needs both front wheels lifted. After a recharge, our health test decides between keeping the battery and renewing it.
A Fortuner leaves the engine running at a stop when its battery holds too little charge or has deteriorated. A "Battery charging" message means engine stops are held back while the battery charges. AC use in high outside heat also blocks a stop, so we confirm a weak battery on the tester before replacing it.
A Camry shows "High Power Consumption Power to Climate Temporarily Limited", and a Corolla shows "High Power Consumption Partial Limit on AC/Heater Operation". When either message keeps coming back, Toyota names a charging system fault or a deteriorating battery. Both the battery and the alternator side go on test, and the one at fault is renewed.
A Land Cruiser FJ shows a voltmeter on its display. With the engine running, 19 V or more, or 9 V or less, marks a battery or charging fault. We test both sides, repair a faulty charging system and renew a battery that fails its own test.
Our Toyota battery replacement in Dubai deals with the 12 V battery of petrol, diesel and hybrid lines alike.
A Toyota battery in Dubai fails for 6 reasons, and heat drives 4 of them. Those 4 are hot air, a hot battery, grid corrosion and lasting capacity loss. The other 2 are self-discharge during long stands and a battery unsuited to Stop & Start.
Over 1991 to 2020, 100 per cent of June to October days at the airport reached 30 °C. Summer overnight lows in Dubai sit near 29.7 °C. Our answer to a heat-aged battery is a new one built to the values Toyota sets for that car.
We match each Toyota battery to its car and check the alternator before the swap, and these results follow for the owner.
A Fortuner with a fresh battery runs a refresh charge of about 5 to 60 minutes, then Stop & Start returns. A Hilux takes up to an hour for the same refresh.
While its charging system warning shows, a Land Cruiser FJ partly limits the air conditioning to save battery power. A repaired charging system brings full cooling back.
Battery mounting is on the RTA list of items checked at the periodic vehicle test. Our hold-down clamp goes back tight for it.
Power support through the swap keeps a GR Supra's memory positions, time and date. A power failure wipes those settings.
Heat damage builds through the summer and shows itself later, at a start that fails. A battery that fails our test is replaced before that start comes.
Toyota warns that a low 20HR capacity lets a battery go flat even over a short stand. A replacement with at least the original 20HR removes that cause of a flat battery.
Toyota sets one rule for the Camry, Land Cruiser FJ and Crown: the new battery keeps the old one's case size. Its 20 hour rate capacity (20HR) and performance rating (CCA) must equal or beat the old values. All 3 values sit on the battery label, and a battery of another case size cannot be secured properly.
Toyota lists 3 battery types for the Camry. They are LN2 at 58 Ah and 345 A, LN2 at 60 Ah and 360 A, and LN3 at 70 Ah and 600 A. A Land Cruiser FJ takes an LN3 of at least 65 Ah and 490 A.
The Crown takes an LN2 of at least 55 Ah and 345 A, of the vented calcium type and with a handle. We read the old label and fit a battery that meets each value.
On a Camry, Corolla, Hilux, Fortuner, Land Cruiser FJ or Crown, the ECUs lose their stored information when the battery comes off. The engine or power switch then returns to the mode it held before. The first start after a recharge can fail, and Toyota calls a start at the second attempt normal.
On a Hilux, the power windows can fail to close properly until they are initialised. The Camry lists its tyre pressure warning system among the items to initialise after the battery is reconnected. We turn the engine switch off before disconnecting, then initialise the windows and the tyre pressure system.
Each Toyota that comes in for a battery moves through these steps in order.
We switch the engine off, run the high beams for 30 seconds, switch them off and read the voltage. Toyota's floor is 12.3 V at 20 °C on a Camry and 12.0 V on a Corolla Hybrid or Crown 12 V battery. Voltage alone shows charge, not health, so a full health test follows and decides on a new battery.
On a Camry, Corolla Hybrid or Crown, Toyota caps charging at 5 A for a slow charge and 15 A for a quick one. With the battery still in the car, we disconnect the ground cable first and keep the engine off.
At idle, we put the charging voltage on our meter. A sound alternator keeps it no higher than 14.4 V, and any charging fault is fixed ahead of the swap.
Toyota calls for the negative terminal to come off first. A positive terminal that touches nearby metal can spark and start a fire. We follow that order on every Toyota.
On a Corolla with a battery insulator, the new battery matches the original size so the insulator fits back on. On a Crown, the exhaust hose and the exhaust hole plug go back on the new battery. Badly fitted, they let hydrogen into the cabin.
We road test the car, confirm that no battery or charging warning returns and watch for Stop & Start where the car has it.

Our Toyota battery work differs from a plain swap in these ways.
A Toyota can carry a maintenance-type battery with vent plugs or a maintenance-free one. Before a reading, our tester goes to the setting for the battery in the car.
The Crown keeps its 12 V battery on the right-hand side of the boot, with an exclusive jump starting terminal under the bonnet. Our tester clamps onto the terminals in the boot, since the cable run to the bonnet adds resistance and skews the reading.
Toyota names any reliable repairer, as well as its own retailers, to register a new GR Supra battery. Once registered, every comfort function works without restriction. We register the battery at our workshop.
The Crown's traction battery is a 230.4 V nickel-metal hydride pack under the rear seats. The 12 V battery is ours to change, and a traction battery fault goes to a Toyota dealer.
A charging battery gives off hydrogen, and Toyota rules out charging in a closed room without ventilation. We charge batteries in open, ventilated space.
Toyota asks for old GR Supra batteries to go to a retailer, a repairer or a collecting point. We pass each old battery to a collecting point.

Toyota owners in Dubai stretch battery life with 4 habits. Two cut electrical loads, one checks the fluid of a maintenance-type battery and one books a test before summer. Between them, they keep the charge up and catch a tired battery before a failed start.
Toyota advises switching off the headlights and the audio system whenever the engine is off.
Toyota advises switching off unneeded electrical equipment when the car runs at low speed for a long stretch, such as in heavy traffic.
A Camry with a maintenance-type battery shows its fluid against a LOWER LEVEL line, or against MAX and MIN lines. At or below the low mark, add distilled water and avoid overfilling.
The Land Cruiser FJ schedule inspects the battery at every 10,000 km. The airport's mean daily high clears 40 °C in each of June, July and August. A spring visit for our battery test finds a weak one before that heat.

Dubai taxis in a 12-month trial give the nearest local figure: their conventional starter batteries failed at about the 5 to 6 month mark. Those taxis ran heavier duty than a private Toyota. Our replacement call rests on the test reading, never on the battery's age.
Yes. A Crown takes jumper cables at an exclusive jump starting terminal under the fuse box cover in the engine compartment. That terminal charges the Crown's own 12 V battery and cannot jump start another car.
