Read the fault memory and reminder
We read the stored faults and the service items before the drain. A level, monitor or pressure fault changes the job, and we trace and repair that fault first.

Match the oil to the STJLR code
The bottle we open carries the STJLR code listed for the engine fitted, read from its engine code.

Drain the sump and change the filter
The old oil and filter element come out, and a new element and drain plug sealing ring go in. A 2024 recall in Qatar covers the 2024 and 2025 Range Rover Vogue 3.0 V6 SC, Sport 3.0i6 HSE and Velar 2.0 R-Dynamic SE. Their oil filter housing can crack, and oil leaking there is a fire risk, so we look at the housing on those cars.

Fill in stages
We fill to the MIN mark first and start the engine, letting oil pressure build up. Top-up steps of 0.1 litre follow, and on a 2011 Range Rover about 2 litres separate MIN from MAX.

Read the level by the model's own method
Each model has its own reading. A 2011 Range Rover petrol engine reads hot on level ground, 15 minutes after switch-off, in the Oil level display of the Service menu. The 5.0 litre V8 L405 and L494 show the level on the touchscreen instead.

Reset the reminder and check for leaks
We reset the service reminder, then run the engine and check the drain plug and filter housing for leaks.
