A low battery message with the engine off
On an L405 Range Rover, the Intelligent Power System Management (IPSM) watches the main battery. With the engine off, it shows "Energy Management" or "Low Battery - Please Start Engine" when the battery's condition falls outside set limits. We test the battery, then replace a worn one or trace what drains it.

A red battery charge warning lamp
On an L405, a battery charge lamp that stays on, or lights while driving, signals a fault in the charging system. Land Rover asks drivers to seek qualified help urgently. We measure the charging voltage with the engine running and repair the fault before a new battery goes in.

"Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected" on a mild hybrid
On L405, L494, L560 and L551 mild hybrids, this red message appears when the 12 V system stops supporting the car. A discharged 12 V start-up battery or another component can cause it. We test the 12 V battery and the 48 V charging side, then replace the part that failed.

Stop-start held off for long spells
On the L405, L494 and L560 Velar, stop-start stays inactive under electrical loads from heat and climate control. Before each stop, the system estimates whether the battery can crank the engine again. We read the stop-start inhibit reason with diagnostic software and replace the battery when it fails its test.

A 12 V battery that runs down while a plug-in hybrid charges
On L405 and L494 plug-in hybrids, JLR traced a run-down 12 V start-up battery during charging to Powertrain Control Module software. A new battery does not cure that fault. We read the stored code, then send the car to a Land Rover dealer for the update.
