A weak start on a hot day
The lithium-ion option of the 991 GT3, GT3 RS and 981 Cayman GT4 has restricted start capability at extreme ambient temperatures. We measure the battery's charge and health to tell a heat restriction from a worn battery.

The work we carry out on Porsche models at our Dubai Investment Park workshop. Open the full details below.
A failing Porsche battery shows 5 signs, from a weak start in summer heat to a flat Taycan 12 V battery. Of these, 2 start in software. We test the battery itself before we replace it, because a sensor and a battery can disagree.
The lithium-ion option of the 991 GT3, GT3 RS and 981 Cayman GT4 has restricted start capability at extreme ambient temperatures. We measure the battery's charge and health to tell a heat restriction from a worn battery.
On the Cayenne (9YA and 9YB), Porsche has acknowledged a battery sensor software error that miscalculates the battery data. Depending on use, the car then fails to start after a long stand. We test the battery, and a Porsche dealer installs the sensor software update.
A second sensor software error on the same Cayenne models miscalculates the ageing status of the 12 V battery. A healthy battery then gets replaced before its time. We measure the battery's state of health directly before any replacement.
On the 991 GT3, GT3 RS and 981 Cayman GT4, Porsche states that a lithium-ion battery fitted without gateway coding is charged improperly. We check the gateway coding after a lithium-ion swap on those cars.
On the Taycan, the high-voltage battery and its electronics charge and maintain the 12 V lithium-ion battery. A flat 12 V battery on a Taycan comes from that charging path or from the battery itself. We test the 12 V battery and its charge level first.
Our Porsche battery replacement in Dubai covers these batteries, tests and software steps:
We carry out each item at our Dubai Investment Park 2 workshop.
Porsche battery failure in Dubai has 6 causes: lithium heat limits, heat, short journeys and long stands, wrong battery, wrong charger and charging faults. Heat adds to the others, because the chemical reactivity inside a battery approximately doubles for every 10 °C rise.
Dubai's mean daily maximum is 41.9 °C in August, and every day from June to October passes 30 °C. Every battery we fit gets a charge and health test first.
We change a Porsche battery the way Porsche sets out, and the driver gets these results:
With the sensor software current and a healthy battery fitted, a Cayenne starts after a summer away.
The car charges the new battery as the battery it is, so it reaches full charge from the first drive.
You pay for a new battery when the battery has worn out, not because a warning misread it.
With the original battery back in for the hot months, a 991 GT3 or 981 Cayman GT4 starts in Dubai heat.
A lightweight lithium-ion battery keeps a GT car light: the 40 Ah unit of the 911 S/T weighs 9.5 kg.
With its 12 V battery charged, a Taycan wakes up and drives off after a stand.
Yes. Porsche names 2 jobs: lithium-ion battery swaps on the 991 GT3, GT3 RS or 981 Cayman GT4, and capacity changes on the 992 GT3. Both take gateway coding, which we carry out with diagnostic software, as we do on other Porsches whose battery type or capacity changes.
On the 992 GT3 and GT3 RS, the change is from a 40 Ah lithium-iron-phosphate battery to a 60 Ah one. It starts with an update to the vehicle order, followed by automatic gateway coding. On the older GT cars, the battery sensor connector also moves from the sensor to the battery.
Porsche fits a lithium starter battery as standard on the Cayenne (9YA and 9YB), the 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid and the Taycan. Lightweight lithium batteries also appear on GT models, from the 991 GT3 and 981 Cayman GT4 to the 992 GT3 and the 911 S/T.
A lithium starter battery takes a different charge from a lead-acid one. We read which chemistry the car carries before any charger goes on.
A Porsche battery job at our workshop runs in this order:
Porsche puts the 12 V disconnection point of the 2023-on Cayenne at the front passenger seat. We switch the headlights on briefly to clear the surface charge, then run a conductance test at the battery's own terminals.
With the engine running, we measure the charging voltage, and on a car that keeps going flat we read the current it draws while asleep. On a Cayenne, the battery sensor reports to the gateway control unit, so we read that data too.
The build data names the battery type and capacity the car left the factory with. That battery is what we order, or a larger one with coding, never a smaller one.
A charger goes on the jump-start terminals before any software work. For gateway programming on the 991 GT3 and 981 Cayman GT4, Porsche calls for 13.5 to 14.5 V. The new battery then goes in with its hold-down, terminals and ground strap.
Diagnostic software connected to the car runs the gateway coding set out in the coding section.
We read the fault memory, then start the car after a full rest.

The cost of Porsche battery replacement in Dubai rests on 5 factors: chemistry, capacity, coding, the battery's position and any fault found first. A lithium battery and a lead-acid AGM battery differ in technology, and the technology sets the part price.
Porsche puts the 12 V disconnection point of the Panamera (G3) at the rear and of the Panamera E-Hybrid (G3) in the engine compartment. On the 2025-on 911 Coupé T-Hybrid, it sits at the back seat. We plan the trim work for each of these positions.
Our Porsche battery work follows these practices:
We follow Porsche's battery procedure for each model, from the GT lithium rules to the Cayenne sensor update.
We find whether the battery, the charging system or a drain caused the fault, and replace the part at fault.
Lead-acid AGM and lithium starter batteries each get their own charge and test values in our work.
Our work covers the lightweight lithium batteries of the 991 GT3, 992 GT3 and 981 Cayman GT4. That includes a swap back to the original battery.
We handle 911, 718, Cayenne, Macan and Panamera batteries, including the E-Hybrid models, in one workshop.
Each old battery we remove goes for recycling.
Royal Prince Auto Care handles 12 V battery work on petrol and hybrid Porsches, including these models:
A Porsche battery in Dubai lasts longer with 4 habits: a maintainer, a plugged-in Taycan, shade for GT lithium and a pre-summer battery service. Each habit keeps the battery charged or cool, the 2 conditions that protect its life in the UAE.
The Charge-o-mat Pro has a lead-acid and a lithium mode. On the 992, the Panamera G2, the Cayenne E3 and later models, it connects to the designated charging terminals through its optional adapter.
Porsche advises leaving a Taycan connected to a suitable AC charger when it stands for more than a week. The Charge-o-mat Pro cannot charge a Taycan.
On a 991 GT3, GT3 RS or 981 Cayman GT4 with the lithium-ion option, sunlight heating impairs performance and ages the cells early. A shaded or covered space protects it.
We test charge and health in a Porsche battery service before the summer months.

Yes. We replace 12 V batteries on petrol and hybrid Porsches and code the gateway where Porsche calls for it. For the Cayenne battery sensor, we test the battery, and a Porsche dealer installs the software update.
No. On the 991 GT3, GT3 RS and 981 Cayman GT4, Porsche caps charging of the lithium-ion battery at 13.8 V and 40 A. Porsche does not approve the original Charge-o-mat for that battery. We charge a lithium battery within the limits Porsche sets for it.
In a Dubai taxi fleet tested over 12 months, every conventional battery failed after about 5 to 6 months. Each taxi covered 14,000 km a month. No maker gives a battery life for private cars in the UAE, so we judge each battery by its test.
Yes. The Taycan carries a 12 V lithium-ion battery under a cover at the rear right of the luggage compartment. Porsche lists the Taycan as types Y1A, Y1B and Y1C.
No. In a car built with AGM, the energy management overstresses a flooded battery and shortens its life. We fit AGM in its place.
