A brake pad warning in the cluster
The warning lights when the wear contact inside a pad closes its circuit at the wear limit. We measure the friction material on that axle and replace pads that have reached the limit.

The work we carry out on Mercedes models at our Dubai Investment Park workshop. Open the full details below.
Worn Mercedes brake pads or discs show 6 signs. The instrument cluster shows 2 of them: a pad wear warning and, on certain 205 C-Class and 253 GLC cars, a parking brake warning. The other 4 reach the driver as a screech, grinding, judder or a soft pedal.
The warning lights when the wear contact inside a pad closes its circuit at the wear limit. We measure the friction material on that axle and replace pads that have reached the limit.
On certain 205 C-Class and 253 GLC cars, the parking brake warning comes on and the brake cannot be released. Mercedes traces this to moisture in the connector of the ESP control unit. We dry damp pins, renew corroded contacts with new lines, and fit a new harness or hydraulic unit where the corrosion goes further.
A steel scratch plate on the pad backing touches the disc at the wear limit and screeches as the disc turns. Our technicians fit new pads before the backing plate itself reaches the disc.
Grinding means no friction material is left, so metal is rubbing on the disc. We replace the pads, and a disc with deep circular scoring is replaced too.
Judder comes from uneven disc thickness: the pads are pushed into the thin areas and kicked back by the thick ones. Depending on the car, a difference of 0.015 mm is enough. We measure thickness variation and runout, then replace the discs.
A spongy pedal signals low fluid or air in the lines. We trace the fluid loss to its hose, line or calliper, renew that part and bleed the circuit.
Every Mercedes brake pads and disc replacement we carry out covers these items:
Rear pads on a car last about twice as long as the fronts, so we judge the front and rear axles separately.
Mercedes brake pads and discs in Dubai face 6 causes of wear. Traffic, hot spots and fade wear the friction faces, while long standing, light use on electric models and seized pins leave rust or uneven contact. The result is noise, judder or a dragging pad.
Dubai's network handles more than 3.5 million vehicles each day, and every queue adds a stop. We read the wear pattern on each removed pad. A tapered pad sends us to its calliper, which we then release or replace.
These are the results you get when we carry out the brake job correctly on your Mercedes.
Matched parts and callipers that slide freely give equal force on both sides of the axle, so the car does not pull.
The RTA periodic test checks the service brake's condition and the parking brake's performance and efficiency.
The cluster gives you fresh warning once the new pads wear down to their limit.
Pads renewed in time never let bare metal touch the disc, so its braking surface stays smooth.
Fluid that keeps a high boiling point avoids vapour lock, the bubbles that let a pedal sink.
Correctly fitted pads with fresh hardware brake without squeal or rattle.
AMG brakes squeal from frictional vibrations, because Mercedes-AMG designs these systems for high loads. The noise depends on speed, brake pressure, temperature and air humidity. The fix covers every AMG model with steel or ceramic brakes, with separate steps for the front and rear axles.
At the front, an adhesive film goes on the back of the piston-side pad and the sharp pad edges are rounded off. At the rear, the pad guide contact faces also get heat-resistant paste, kept well clear of the friction faces.
We apply that fix on steel brakes, then bed the pads in with 15 stops at about 30 bar and a cooling run between each. On a C 63 S E PERFORMANCE, for example, 6-piston fixed front callipers grip 390 mm discs. A ceramic system is an option on that car, and we refer its pad and disc work to a Mercedes-Benz dealer.
Mercedes rear brake work starts with a diagnostic tool because the parking brake is electric. The S-Class, E-Class, C-Class, GLC, GLE, GLS, G-Class, AMG GT and EQS SUV all have one, applied by pressing P on the gear selector. Before any piston moves, the tool switches an electric parking brake into its pad-changing mode.
Forcing the piston of an electric parking brake back by hand wrecks the pressure nut or spindle inside the calliper. An electric parking brake calliper takes no grease or copper paste unless its maker specifies it. We retract the rear pistons through the tool and calibrate the system once the new pads are in.
Each Mercedes brake job in our workshop runs in this order.
A drive confirms the complaint and rules out worn suspension parts as the source of noise or vibration. We then read the brake and parking brake fault memory and repair each fault it lists.
Disc thickness is taken in 4 places or more with a gauge. The lowest reading counts, set against MIN TH, the minimum stamped in millimetres on the disc. A disc at or below that figure is replaced.
As the pistons go back, the reservoir level climbs, and we keep an eye on it. On a multi-piston fixed calliper, all pistons go back together with the correct tool. Each seal, dust boot and slide guide is checked, and the guides get the grease the calliper maker specifies.
The hub face is scraped clear of rust and dirt first, since a speck 0.05 mm across throws the disc out of true. We then check that the new disc runs within 0.10 mm per revolution.
New pads go into both callipers on the axle, each with a new electrical wear contact plugged in.
The pedal is pumped until its travel is normal before the car moves, and the fluid level is corrected. On the final drive we brake gently, with no stab or hold over 3 seconds, and listen for noise and vibration.

The cost of Mercedes brake pads and disc replacement in Dubai is set by 4 factors. These cover pads alone or with discs, the brake system, rear parking brake work and extra worn parts, such as a seized calliper. We set which factors apply from our own measurements.
Here is what we do differently on Mercedes brakes.
We check Mercedes technical information for the symptom, and the documented fix shapes the repair.
Each brake job includes a boiling point test of the fluid, and fluid that tests below 180 °C is replaced.
Pad springs lose their temper in brake heat, so new ones go in. An old shim is never refitted.
No grease, oil or degreaser reaches a pad or disc face, and any contaminated part is renewed.
Each wheel bolt goes on in the correct order, tightened by torque wrench to the figure the car maker sets.
A 2022 recall in the UAE covered the front calliper mounting screws on 2022 S-Class 223 cars. Another UAE recall covered brake booster corrosion on 2006 to 2013 ML, GL and R-Class cars. We refer recall work like this to a Mercedes-Benz dealer.
We work on the brakes of these Mercedes series, listed by their Mercedes code:
Mercedes brakes in Dubai last longer with 6 owner habits. They are timely fluid changes, controlled descents, short moves when parked, gentle bedding-in, yearly pad checks and an AMG wash after hard use. We check pads, discs and fluid at every Mercedes service we carry out, and renew any that has reached its limit.
Brake fluid takes in water over time, and its boiling point falls. Change it at the interval in the car's service schedule, and at least every 24 months for DOT 4.
On a long descent, a lower gear lets the engine slow the car. On the electric C-Class, the shift paddles raise the recuperation instead.
On a car left standing, a short weekly roll forwards and backwards with light braking wipes rust off the discs.
For at least 200 km after new pads and discs, brake gently, avoid hard stops over 3 seconds and keep ABS out of action. A car maker's own procedure takes priority.
Ask for the pads to be checked at least every 12 months or at every service.
Mercedes advises washing an AMG directly after heavy use, with the cleaning agents Mercedes lists, as part of its care against brake noise.

Pads are due when the wear warning lights or the friction material is down to about 2 to 3 mm. New pads start at about 10 to 12 mm. Front pads last about 25,000 to 50,000 km, and city driving shortens that.
No. A disc above its stamped minimum, with no cracks, blue spots or deep scoring, takes a new set of pads. Once one disc on an axle fails any of those checks, both discs and the pads are replaced together.
A Mercedes takes brake fluid to the Mercedes approval MB 331.0, whose sheet covers every Mercedes-Benz passenger car. We fill nothing but fluid that carries this approval.
Yes. Carbon ceramic discs wear slowly, with a life of about 150,000 km on the road, and their surface does not corrode. Over that life they lose about 1.25 per cent of their weight. A scale or a dedicated gauge reads that wear better than a thickness measurement.
No. Pads, steel discs, callipers and the parking brake service mode are all handled in our Dubai Investment Park 2 workshop. Ceramic brake work, recall work and Mercedes software updates go to a Mercedes-Benz dealer.
