The Camaro engines involved are the LGX, LTG and LT1, and the Corvette engines the LT1 and LT4. On the Silverado, they are the L83, L86 and L8B. Later builds of these models already carry the latest HP fluid.
Other transmission fluids or additive packages mixed in leave too low a share of new fluid, and the fix falls short. We confirm the shudder and refer the full replacement with HP fluid to a Chevrolet dealer.
A 10-speed Tahoe, Suburban or Silverado can run hot, shudder or shift harshly with a twisted cooler line, a fault GM finds on low-mileage vehicles. When the lines are sound, GM names the thermal bypass valve as the next suspect for the overheating.
On the 10-speed gearboxes except the 3.0 diesel, that valve sits inside the valve body and opens at 61 °C. The 8L90 8-speed has its valve outside the gearbox, opening at 90 °C.
A twisted line is untwisted and reconnected, and a line that stays misshapen is replaced. The fluid level check then goes to a Chevrolet dealer. We refer a thermal bypass valve that fails to open on time to a Chevrolet dealer.
A Chevrolet gearbox job follows this order:
We write down the speed, the gear, the fluid temperature where the car displays it, and whether it was towing or in Tow/Haul Mode. Later tests repeat those conditions.
The gearbox module keeps a fault memory of its own, and it signals the engine control unit to switch on the warning lamp. We read the gearbox module and its live data, then repair the fault the codes confirm.
Burnt-smelling fluid, or fluid holding chips and metal flakes, marks a damaged gearbox, and the pan magnet shows how much wear has built up. We refer internal damage and any fluid change to a Chevrolet dealer.
With the engine running, we select each forward range and Reverse, then return to Park. A delay or harsh engagement in any range goes on the record.
Chevrolet sets the level at a specified fluid temperature, and we refer that level set to a Chevrolet dealer.

A 2024 Tahoe takes DEXRON ULV. The 2024 Silverado 1500 takes DEXRON-HP in its 8-speed and DEXRON ULV in its 10-speed, and we name that fluid on every dealer referral.
The 2024 Traverse automatic takes DEXRON-VI, and the 2026 Groove CVT takes SL2100 CVT fluid. Neither shares a fluid with the trucks.
A 2024 Corvette has its first external canister filter change at 10,000 km, then one every 30,000 km. Fluid and filter are changed together at 70,000 km.
On a Tahoe or Silverado, the underbody panels can hide the transmission cooler lines. We remove them to inspect each line along its length.
A 4WD Tahoe or Suburban rolls freely with the transfer case in N, even with the gearbox in P. In our workshop, the transfer case stays in a drive gear, or the parking brake goes on first.
In the UAE, Chevrolet groups the Silverado LD by gearbox. The 6-speed covers 2019 to 2021 trucks, the 8-speed 2019 to 2022 and the 10-speed 2019 to 2024. We confirm which one a truck carries before choosing fluid and parts.

On a 2024 Silverado, Chevrolet pairs D with Tow/Haul Mode for towing, heavy loads, steep hills and off-road driving. The mode helps most with a heavy load in stop-and-go traffic and busy car parks.
