A worn Chevrolet suspension shows 6 signs, 2 of them as messages on a Tahoe or Suburban: Service Leveling System and Service Ride Control. Vibration and sway under braking, a Silverado leaf spring squeak and a Silverado HD rear clunk come next. The sixth is a pull or uneven tyre wear.
A 2024 Tahoe or Suburban with Four Corner Air Suspension can show "Service Leveling System" in the instrument cluster. Chevrolet tells the driver to have the car seen without delay. We trace the message to the air spring, line, height sensor or compressor and replace the failed part.
A 2015 to 2020 Magnetic Ride Tahoe or Suburban can show "Service Suspension System" or "Service Ride Control". A leaking shock, a clunk or uneven ride height can join it, and GM traces these to an internal shock fault. We trace the message to the shock, its wiring or its control module and repair the failed part.
On a 2024 Tahoe or Silverado 1500, worn shocks and struts can show as steering wheel vibration. Bounce or sway while braking and a longer stopping distance are 2 more signs Chevrolet names. We fit new shocks or struts on the axle that shows them.
A 2024 Silverado 1500 or HD can squeak from its rear leaf springs in normal driving. Chevrolet calls the noise a trait of leaf springs, and debris between the leaves is one cause. We lubricate the rear leaf springs, as Chevrolet advises, to stop the squeak.
A 2020 to 2024 Silverado 2500HD or 3500HD can clunk from the rear leaf spring area. Movement between the anchor plate and the axle can cause it, and GM's fix is a re-torque of the leaf spring joints. We loosen the U-bolts and torque them back to GM's figure.
On a 2024 Tahoe, Chevrolet links pulling, poor handling and unusual tyre wear to an alignment that needs adjusting. A slight pull from the crown of the road is normal. We find the worn bush, joint or spring that moved the angles and replace it.

A single worn shock can stretch a 50 km/h stop in a light car by up to 2 m beyond its usual 30 m. New shocks win that distance back.
Over bumps, a tyre with a tired shock hops and scrubs scalloped patches into its tread. With new shocks, the tread wears evenly across its width.
In Sport mode, a 2024 Camaro with working Magnetic Ride Control changes its suspension for better cornering performance.
Air ride changes suspension repair on a Tahoe or Suburban because the air system sets the height. Four Corner Air Suspension is offered on 3 Tahoe trims, the Z71 and RST among them. Where a 2024 car carries them, Increased Height adds 25 mm below 80 km/h and Maximum Height 50 mm in four-wheel low below 48 km/h.
Height changes pause while the hood or any door is open. Heavy use can also pause them while the compressor cools, with "Leveling System Unavailable" in the cluster. A Tahoe that shows it after one height change gets a compressor test from us, and a failed compressor is replaced.
Service Mode stops every height change and the air compressor on a 2024 Tahoe or Suburban. The car switches it on when it goes onto a hoist or a floor jack lifts a corner. We confirm Service Mode is active before any air part comes off.
Alignment Mode sets the body to the height that gives the most accurate wheel alignment. It starts from Normal Height with the gearbox in Neutral and switches off above 16 km/h. We enable it before we set the wheels of a 2024 air-ride Tahoe or Suburban.
No. On a 2015 to 2020 Tahoe or Suburban, GM has each Magnetic Ride Control shock diagnosed on its own and replaced alone when it fails. GM states its shock technology has improved, so a pair is replaced only when diagnosis confirms both shocks have failed.
Magnetic Ride Control is a semi-active damping system. On a Corvette with Magnetic Selective Ride Control 4.0, the shock fluid carries metal particles that align to change its viscosity.
We test each Magnetic Ride shock on its own and replace only the shock that failed.
We work through these steps on each Chevrolet suspension job.
We drive over speed bumps, through bends and under hard braking to feel bounce, sway, knocks and pull. A Tahoe with air ride also runs through its heights.
Diagnostic software reads the stored faults in the suspension, ride control and leveling modules. Each code leads the repair to a part.
Shocks, bushes, boots, springs and links are examined for oil, splits and impact damage. With each wheel raised, we rock it to feel for ball joint and tie rod end play, and a pry bar confirms it. Any joint with play goes on the repair list.
We measure each corner against GM's trim height for the model and replace a sagged spring. On a Corvette whose spring seats were moved for track use, we return the seats to normal trim height for the road.

On an air-ride car, a burned-out compressor is a common sign of a leak elsewhere in the circuit. We spray soapy water over each Tahoe air spring, line and fitting, including the rolling edge hidden at normal height. The leak is sealed before a compressor goes in.
An old or sticky relay can keep the air compressor running until it fails. Every new compressor we fit gets a new relay.
The strut mount is the pivot of the strut, and a worn one binds the steering. Each strut we replace gets a new mount.
Bolts through a rubber bush get their final torque from us with the arm held at ride height.
An impact tool can destroy the threads of a shock piston rod. In our workshop, each piston rod nut is run on by hand to its torque.
Self-locking nuts and bolts are single-use parts. Every one we remove from a Chevrolet is swapped for a new one.
We repair the suspension of the Chevrolet lines below. A Silverado Z71 runs monotube shocks on a factory suspension lift, and the Traverse Z71 rides on lifted suspension.
Dubai owners extend the life of a Chevrolet suspension with 4 habits. They are the yearly chassis check, lubrication where GM lists it, gentle washing underneath and a low Tahoe ride height. We carry out the check and the lubrication at the services we do.
Chevrolet has the steering, suspension and chassis of a 2024 Tahoe, Silverado or Traverse inspected at least every 12 months. On a UAE Tahoe, the suspension check is part of every service, and a service falls at 10,000 km or 12 months.
A 2024 Silverado HD has its upper and lower control arm ball joints lubricated at every engine oil change. On a 2024 Tahoe these joints need no maintenance, and parts with grease fittings get lubricated at least every other oil change.
A high-pressure hose washes the lubricant off Silverado rear leaf springs, and the squeak returns. Chevrolet also warns against pressure washing a 2024 Tahoe frame, because it strips the corrosion protection.
Higher ride heights raise the centre of gravity of a 2024 Tahoe and the chance of a rollover in extreme manoeuvres. Chevrolet advises the lowest height that suits the conditions, and Normal Height with cargo on the roof rack.
