A flashing check engine light
A flashing check engine light means severe converter damage and power loss are close. We repair the engine fault behind it, such as a misfire or weak ignition, before the converter melts.

A failing catalytic converter shows 5 signs: a flashing engine light, a steady one, a scorching smell, rough running and a failed emissions test. The converter cleans the exhaust gas. Each sign therefore marks a fault in the engine, the sensors or the converter itself.
A flashing check engine light means severe converter damage and power loss are close. We repair the engine fault behind it, such as a misfire or weak ignition, before the converter melts.
A steady check engine light means the engine or emission control system has a fault, and converter damage is possible. A converter efficiency code is not proof on its own, because emission faults ahead of the converter are corrected before it is replaced. We repair the fault the tests point to, in the exhaust, the fuel system or the converter.
A scorching smell from under the car signals severe and abnormal catalyst overheating. Stop the car, switch off the engine and let it cool. We then repair the engine fault that overheated the catalyst and replace a damaged converter.
High fuel consumption, rough running and poor emissions are the symptoms of a faulty oxygen sensor, also called a lambda sensor. A sensor fault can also set a diagnostic trouble code. We replace a failed or contaminated sensor.
The RTA vehicle test includes an exhaust emissions check. A car that fails it carries a fault in the engine, the sensors or the converter. We find which one and repair it before the retest.
Our catalytic converter work covers the engine faults that damage a converter as well as the converter itself:
For converter codes on the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator, Ford's procedure records oxygen storage values from both banks and replaces just the affected parts. We replace the converter on the bank that fails its tests.
Catalytic converter failure in Dubai has 6 causes, each of them outside the converter. The engine sends it the wrong mix of fuel, oil or coolant, or the road or a wrong product damages it:
A malfunctioning converter runs hotter than normal. It can set fire to dry plants, wood or cardboard under a car driven slowly or parked over them. Dubai International Airport has recorded a highest daily maximum of 48.8 °C in August.
Every car catalytic converter repair we carry out tests for each of the 6 causes. We fix the one we find before a new converter goes in.
A repair that starts at the cause gives you a converter that does its job and keeps doing it.
A working three-way catalyst turns carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons into carbon dioxide and water, and nitrogen oxides into nitrogen. Optimum conversion comes at an air-to-fuel ratio of 14.7 to 1.
A converter fitted while the cause remains can fail the same way, and the old fault can damage the new part. The new converter then starts its work on a sound engine.
Exhaust emissions are part of the RTA periodic test that registration renewal depends on. A repaired converter removes one reason for a failed result.
Hyundai for the Tucson NX4 and Kia for the PU diesel warn that removing the exhaust heat sink creates a fire risk. We put back each heat shield removed for access to the converter.
Converter damage can cost the engine its power. Repairing the damage gives that power back.
Leaking engine oil travels along the wiring loom into an oxygen sensor and its connector. A new sensor fails again when the oil source stays open, so we repair the oil leak as part of the job.
UAE rules set emission limits for every car and penalise changes made to the engine without permission. Cabinet Decree 12 of 2006 caps vehicle emissions at the limits of the UAE standards. Ministerial Resolution 178 of 2017 fines a driver for a vehicle that causes pollution, and for modifying the engine without permission.
An engine modified without permission also brings 30 days of vehicle retention under the same resolution. A driver who skips the vehicle examination after core adjustments to the engine is fined as well. Under the UAE Euro 6 rules, regulators can run in-service emissions tests on cars already on the road.
We repair or replace a failed converter so the car stays inside these rules.
Our converter jobs run in 6 steps, from your description of the fault to the road test.
We ask whether the check engine light flashes or stays on, and when the smell or power loss appears. A recent emissions test result also goes on the job card.
We read every engine fault code and the freeze-frame data stored with it. We repair each fault the codes show, because a converter code can follow a misfire or a sensor fault.
A leak ahead of the oxygen sensors skews their readings. We find it with a smoke test, a soapy solution and a visual check, then seal it.
We watch the rear oxygen sensor on a scan tool for a steady reading at or above 450 mV. On the gas analyser, the target is lambda 1 and hydrocarbons below 65 ppm. A reading outside those figures sends us back to the fuel or sensor fault, which we repair.
We pressure test the cooling system and check the oil consumption and the fuel used. A positive result sends us to the head gasket, the oil burning or the fuel, and we repair that fault.
We repair the fault the tests found, then fit the converter made for your car's engine. A road test and a fresh code read follow the fitting.

The cost of car catalytic converter repair in Dubai rests on 4 factors. These are the cause of the failure, the converters that fail their tests, the state of the oxygen sensors and the converter your engine takes. A head gasket or an oil burning repair adds engine work before the converter goes in.
Each contaminated sensor is a part of its own on the bill. The test results set which of the 4 factors apply.

Our converter work looks past the warning light to the engine that caused it.
A healthy oxygen sensor tip is dull grey, and a red tip can signify contamination by fuel additives. We read the tip colour of every sensor we remove, then repair the source of the contamination.
Contamination that ruins a sensor also reduces the capacity of the converter. We check the converter each time we replace a contaminated sensor, and replace it when it fails its tests.
We check whether the car maker has issued an engine software update or a bulletin for the fault. When the fix is the maker's software, we refer the car to the maker's dealer for the update.
The wrong gasket sealant contaminates a catalyst from the inside. Every joint we seal near the converter gets a converter-safe product.
Hyundai for the Tucson NX4 and Kia for the PU diesel forbid tampering with the engine or emission control system. We do not remove converters or replace them with plain pipe.
We take converter work on petrol and diesel cars of every make we service, all at our independent workshop in Dubai Investment Park 2.
A catalytic converter in Dubai stays healthy longer through 4 owner habits. These are prompt misfire repairs, a fuel level above empty, correct starting and stopping, and care with fuel system cleaners. Each habit spares the catalyst a misfire, a damaging start or a harmful chemical, and we repair the faults that the habits expose.
Hyundai tells Tucson NX4 owners not to drive on with misfire signs or a clear loss of performance. Have the engine checked as soon as it runs rough.
Running out of fuel can misfire the engine and damage the catalytic converter. Refuel before the warning light comes on.
Do not push start or tow start a car with a converter. Excessive attempts to restart a stalled engine can damage the emission control system. Coasting with the engine off is misuse too.
For the Wrangler, Jeep recommends petrol that contains detergents, corrosion and stability additives. Indiscriminate fuel system cleaners can contain active solvents that harm gaskets and diaphragms.

No. A flashing check engine light calls for immediate service. A scorching smell means the catalyst is overheating: stop, switch off and let the car cool. A steady light still marks a fault in the engine or emission control system, which we diagnose and repair.
No. A catalytic converter with a melted, cracked or contaminated substrate is replaced once its cause is repaired. A converter code alone does not condemn the part. Ford links P0420 and P0430 codes on the Expedition and Navigator to high sulphur fuel, and its fix is a sulphur removal drive cycle.
Yes. We test the oxygen sensors in the same job, from the connector and its wire to the heater. The heater resistance, measured at room temperature, rules out an open or short circuit. A sensor that fails these tests or shows contamination is replaced.
A new catalytic converter fails again when the original cause is still present. A misfire, oil burning, a coolant leak or an unsuitable fuel additive damages the new converter as it damaged the old one.
Yes. Kia fits its PU diesel with a catalytic converter and tells owners not to drive it with a misfire or idle it for long spells. The RTA emissions test has its own criteria for diesel engines.
