Which oil does a Brabus engine need?
Any Brabus built around a Mercedes-Benz engine takes the oil approval and SAE grade listed by Mercedes-Benz for its engine code. Brabus publishes no engine oil approval of its own for these cars. The listing goes down to the sub-code after the point, such as M177.7 or M177.9.
The AMG M177 EVO is a 4.0 litre biturbo V8. In the worldwide Mercedes-Benz oil table, the M177.7 takes MB 229.51 or 229.52, in SAE 0W-40 and no other grade. The M177.8 and M177.9 take MB 229.5, in 0W-40 or 5W-40.
We read the engine number on the base car, then fill to the rule for its sub-code.

What wears out the oil in a Brabus engine in Dubai?
Brabus engine oil in Dubai wears through 6 causes: added turbochargers, summer heat, sand, hybrid running, short trips and a wrong specification. Each one leaves the oil dirtier or thinner, or takes its level below the minimum or above the maximum mark.
- Turbochargers: an engine with turbochargers consumes more oil, since the oil lubricates them as well. The B40S-800 kit fits 2 Brabus turbochargers to the G 63 (W 465).
- Heat: in Dubai, June opens the summer at a 40.3 °C mean daily high, and August peaks at 41.9 °C. That heat dries out gasket and seal rubber.
- Sand: fine dust that reaches the oil fouls it and forms sludge.
- Hybrid running: in a hybrid such as the Brabus 930, repeated stop-start running holds the engine at a low temperature, and condensation forms inside it.
- Short trips: fuel collects in the oil of an engine driven on short runs, and the level rises.
- Wrong specification: oils for the low-viscosity MB 229.6 to 229.81 approvals can damage an engine that Mercedes-Benz does not list for them.
We replace a hardened seal that leaks, and drain a wrong earlier fill for the listed oil. The drain and the new filter clear sludge, condensation and fuel out of the sump.

Mercedes-Benz links the oil drain interval to the specification in the engine, and certain specifications bring a shorter one. Oil to the listing keeps the next due date right for that fill.
Cleaner oil through the engine
Particles of soot or dust turn engine oil abrasive. A new filter with each oil change removes them from circulation.
A dry sump plug
Changing the sealing ring every time stops oil seeping past the sump plug. Where the ring is part of the plug, a complete new plug goes in.
No extra oil mist
A level inside the marks keeps the crankshaft clear of the oil. Above the top mark, the crankshaft dips in and whips up extra oil mist.

We read the series code of the base car and its engine number. Any PowerXtra module or Brabus turbocharger on the engine is noted too.
Look up the listing
The Mercedes-Benz oil table covers engines in current production. For an older base engine it no longer lists, we take the oil approval from the car's own manual.
Clean before opening
Sand on the sump plug and the filler cap comes off with a wipe before either opens, so none of it drops into the engine.
Empty the sump and fit a fresh filter
The sump plug comes out, the old oil drains away and the used filter is removed. We fit the new filter before any fresh oil goes in.
Fill in stages
A first fill reaches the minimum mark. Once the running engine shows oil pressure, 0.1 litre steps bring the level up.
Read the level, then look for leaks
The level is read on flat ground once a warm engine has had a 5-minute stand. Plug and filter then get a leak check while the engine idles.

Brabus Oil Change questions, answered
Can any MB 229 oil go in for a Brabus oil change in Dubai?
No. Both the approval and the SAE grade must match the engine code. An M177.7 V8 takes MB 229.51 or 229.52 in 0W-40, so a 5W-30 carrying the same approval does not qualify.
Does an electric smart BRABUS need an oil change?
No. An electric smart BRABUS carries no engine oil to drain. We change engine oil on Brabus cars with a combustion engine.
When does a Brabus need an oil change?
Brabus publishes no service schedule of its own, so the base car's service display sets the date. Mercedes-Benz shortens the drain interval for certain oil specifications. We log the approval at each change, so the next date suits the oil in the engine.
Does Royal Prince Auto Care change the oil on a ROCKET 900 engine?
No. The ROCKET 900 is a Brabus 4.5 litre build with forged pistons and a crankshaft machined from solid. Brabus lists no oil approval for it, so we refer its oil service to Brabus.
