Warning signs

What are the signs of a failing Brabus engine?

The warning signs of a failing Brabus engine come from the Mercedes-AMG engine beneath the Brabus parts. The cluster can show a check engine light with code P012800, a yellow coolant message or "Fording not available". Power loss, camshaft fault codes and oil where the engine meets the gearbox complete the list.

Check engine light with code P012800 on an M17x V8

On an M17x engine, code P012800 means the coolant stays below the temperature the thermostat is set for. Driving is unaffected, and Mercedes names no single cause.

Where newer engine software exists, a Mercedes-Benz dealer loads it. Otherwise, we drain the coolant through a fine sieve to look for debris, fit a new thermostat and bleed the circuit under vacuum.

A yellow coolant message on a 167 with the M177

A series 167 car with the M177 V8 and 48 V system can show a yellow "Coolant" message with code P2B2A7A. Air in the low-temperature circuit causes it. The pump beside the transmission drops into a dry-run mode.

Our fix is to fill that circuit with a vacuum filler and run the venting routine in stages. The job is done when the rear pump runs on steadily and the flow is near silent.

"Fording not available" on a W 465 G 63

A W 465 G 63 can light the check engine lamp and show "Fording not available", with code P153073 stored. The left air flap in the cold air intake has stuck inside its duct.

We fit a new air duct segment, then clear the codes and look for any further symptoms.

Loss of power with throttle valve codes on an M177

An M177 can light the check engine lamp and lose power, with throttle valve codes such as P210185 or P213500. Mercedes traces them to raised electrical resistance in the pins of the left and right throttle actuators.

At both actuator plugs, we fit updated sockets with silver- and gold-coated pins and new seals.

CAMTRONIC fault codes on an M176 or M177

Codes such as P34C800, "The CAMTRONIC has a malfunction", point to the camshaft actuators of the M176 and M177. Mercedes gives software and hardware as the causes.

We check the part number of every CAMTRONIC actuator and replace superseded units with the current part. Newer engine software, where it exists, is loaded by a Mercedes-Benz dealer.

Engine oil leakage where the engine meets the gearbox

On an M17x V8, oil at the back of the engine and at the gearbox joint comes with oil use or an oil smell. Mercedes traces it to the rear main seal or its seal plate.

We confirm the source with trace powder on a clean engine running on the lift, then repair the seal area.

What it covers

What our Brabus engine repair includes

Our Brabus engine repair takes in this work on the base engine:

  • Code reading in the engine and drive control units
  • Cooling circuit and cap pressure tests
  • Thermostat renewal with vacuum bleeding
  • Low-temperature circuit filling and venting
  • Cold air intake duct segment replacement
  • Throttle actuator socket and pin renewal
  • CAMTRONIC actuator checks and renewal
  • Rear main seal and air/oil separator repair
  • Compression and leak-down tests

We work on the Mercedes-AMG engine and the systems that serve it, from cooling to intake and lubrication.

What we see

What causes Brabus engine failure in Dubai?

Brabus engine failure in Dubai starts in the Mercedes-AMG base engine, not in the Brabus parts. Heat, airborne sand, weak antifreeze and low oil act on it from outside. Engine bay heat on the wiring and swapped coolant hoses act from within.

  • Summer traffic: whenever the car stands or the airflow is too weak, the radiator fan alone carries the cooling. We test the fan and check the radiator for blockage.
  • Airborne sand: sand and dust pulled in with the intake air can destroy a turbocharger. A faulty air filter lets them wear the cylinders as well. We check the filter element and replace a torn or soaked one.
  • Engine bay heat on the wiring: on an M176 or M177 with CAMTRONIC faults, Mercedes checks the harness near the bulkhead for heat damage. We inspect that area, and a Mercedes-Benz dealer takes over a car with a damaged harness.
  • Weak antifreeze: a low antifreeze share corrodes the thermostat, and the shaft seal of the coolant pump is lubricated by the antifreeze in the mix. We renew a corroded thermostat.
  • Low oil: the turbochargers share the engine's oil, and oil starvation is a top reason turbochargers fail. We trace the loss and stop it.
  • Swapped coolant hoses: on an M17x, lower coolant hoses fitted the wrong way round also set code P012800. A pressure drop in the high-temperature circuit as the low-temperature cap opens reveals them. We refit them correctly, then fill and bleed the circuit.

Dubai airport records a 41.9 °C mean maximum for August and a record of 48.8 °C. The same records show rising sand averaging 17.7 days annually. Each Brabus engine job we take on therefore includes a cooling test and an intake check.

What we see

The gains of fixing a Brabus engine at its cause

We remove the reason a part failed as well as the part, which brings these results:

Fording ready on a W 465 G 63

With the intake flap moving freely, the fording function is available again and the check engine lamp stays off.

Full response from the throttle

Sound contacts at the throttle actuators let an M177 pull without the power loss that came with the throttle codes.

An engine at working temperature

A working thermostat lets the coolant reach its set temperature, so P012800 stays out of the fault memory.

Quiet coolant pumps

With the air bled out, the low-temperature pumps run near silent and the yellow coolant message clears.

A dry bell housing

A sealed rear main seal keeps oil off the gearbox joint and ends the oil smell around the car.

A steady oil level

With the leak found and sealed, the level stays put between services and the turbochargers keep their oil supply.

In depth

Which Brabus engine jobs go to Brabus, and which to a Mercedes-Benz dealer?

A Brabus engine job goes to Brabus when it involves a PowerXtra turbocharger, a PowerXtra control module or the inside of a ROCKET 900 engine. Software fixes and recalls are Mercedes-Benz dealer work. We repair the Mercedes-AMG engine around those parts, and the details below show what the kits add.

The B40S-800 kit gives a W 465 G 63 twin Brabus turbochargers, each with a 52 mm compressor. Their modified core assemblies run on reinforced axial bearings. The B40-700 kit instead adds an auxiliary module to the engine control unit and lifts peak torque from 850 Nm to 950 Nm.

On a 463 G 63 with the M177, Mercedes cures a misfire with new engine control software and a sensor rotor adaptation. We log the misfire codes, and the update itself is a Mercedes-Benz dealer job.

What it covers

Which engine recalls cover the base cars of a Brabus?

The engine recalls that cover Brabus base cars are Mercedes-Benz recalls announced in Qatar, and none of them names Brabus. Engine software, a fuel line coating and wiring insulation are the subjects, on G-Class, GLE and GLS cars, plus the S-Class and AMG GT.

  • Qatar, October 2020: the 2019 G-Class, for the fuel line coating near the quick connector.
  • Qatar, September 2021: the 2019 to 2020 G-Class, for a powertrain control unit outside the maker's specifications.
  • Qatar, October 2021: the 2018 to 2019 AMG GT, E-Class and S-Class, for engine control unit software.
  • Qatar, December 2021: the 2020 to 2021 G-Class, for engine electronics control unit software.
  • Qatar, December 2023: the 2020 to 2022 G-Class, for engine electronics control unit software that differs from series production.
  • Qatar, April 2026: the 2019 to 2022 E-Class, CLS, GLE, GLS, GT and S-Class, for engine wiring harness insulation.

We match the base car against these notices before engine work starts. Any open campaign we find is carried out by a Mercedes-Benz dealer.

How it works

How we repair a Brabus engine at Royal Prince Auto Care

The steps run in this order, and the warning decides which tests the engine gets:

Record the message and its conditions

We write down the dashboard message and the moment it shows: cold or warm engine, idling or pulling hard.

Read the codes in every control unit

The codes for these engine faults sit in more than one unit. P2B2A7A is stored in the powertrain control unit and P153073 in the AMG drive unit, so every unit is read.

Pressure-test the cooling circuit

Held above 1 bar, the circuit is watched for a pressure drop. A falling reading sends us to the wet joint, where the leaking part is replaced.

Check the coolant reservoir for oil

Oil floating on the coolant comes through a leaking head gasket or a leaking oil cooler on the engine. We pinpoint which one leaks and renew that part.

Test compression and leak-down

Compression readings single out the weak cylinder. During a leak-down test, bubbles at the radiator filler mean air is getting past the head gasket. We repair a cylinder head fault here, while a Mercedes-Benz dealer handles any rebuild of worn cylinders.

Road-test from a warm and a cold start

The codes are cleared after the repair, and we drive the car from a warm start and then from a cold one. A last fault memory read confirms no code returns.

Send us the Brabus model and a dashboard photo through WhatsApp, or call, to arrange a look at the engine.

Cost and value

What decides the cost of Brabus engine repair in Dubai?

Four factors shape the price of Brabus engine repair in Dubai. They are the base engine, the fault behind the warning, the parts changed together and the reach of the damage. We order parts from what the tests on that car find.

Debris in the drained coolant of an M17x adds at least 2 to 3 flushes of the circuit before the new thermostat goes in.

Why Royal Prince

Why choose Royal Prince Auto Care for Brabus engine repair

The cards below show how we handle the base engine of a Brabus:

Thermostat matched to the engine version

Mercedes lists 2 thermostats for these V8s: one for the M177LS2 and M177LSE, another for the M176, M177LS1 and M178. We confirm the version before ordering.

Pump positions checked

On a 167 with the M177 and 48 V, each front right low-temperature pump, outer and inner, has a part specified for the car. Where the fitted part differs, we replace that pump.

Separators before the seal

With oil at an M17x rear main seal, both air/oil separators are renewed first, the bell housing is cleaned and the leak is tested again. A leak that survives the retest calls for a new seal and seal plate. The sealant goes on the block, and an oiled feeler gauge then frees the new seal from the crankshaft.

Expansion tank and cap together

When the cap's relief valve fails, pressure in the cooling circuit climbs too high. Whenever we replace the expansion tank of a Brabus, its cap is renewed with it.

No sealant in the coolant

A coolant leak is repaired at the part that leaks. We never add radiator sealant to the circuit of a Brabus.

No new turbocharger before the cause

A new turbocharger meets the same end when the old cause remains. On a car with Mercedes-AMG turbochargers, we find and remove that cause before the new unit goes on.

In Dubai conditions

How do you make a Brabus engine last longer in Dubai?

A Brabus owner can extend engine life in Dubai through 4 habits: gentle driving from cold, a watched oil level, mixed coolant and rinsed fins. At each engine job, we check the coolant mix and the oil level, since they guard the turbochargers and the cooling circuit.

Keep the revs low from cold

Hard acceleration on a cold engine tears at a turbocharger's oil film. Let the engine warm up under light throttle first.

Act on a "check oil level" light

A low oil level starves the turbochargers of the lubrication they run on. Top up when the light comes on, and book a leak check.

Top up with mixed coolant

Topping up with water alone weakens the antifreeze mix. Plain water also attacks a polyamide expansion tank, so top up with ready-mixed coolant instead.

Rinse the radiator fins gently

Soiled radiator fins raise engine temperature and keep the fan running nonstop. Clean them with a gentle flow of water, since a pressure washer jet damages them.

FAQs

Brabus Engine Repair questions, answered

Does Brabus engine repair in Dubai need a Mercedes-Benz dealer?

No. Coolant, intake, throttle and seal repairs on the base engine are mechanical work, done at our Dubai Investment Park 2 workshop. Software updates, open recalls and high-voltage repairs on a hybrid Brabus 930 or 1000 remain with Mercedes-Benz dealers.

Why does a 463 G 63 fail to restart after being switched off?

On a 463 G 63 with the M177, the no-start can come with a yellow 12 V battery warning or exhaust flap codes. Mercedes cures it by changing the alternator charging strategy in the engine software. Our scan confirms the codes, and the software change is made by a Mercedes-Benz dealer.

Is an oil leak at the cylinder head cover of an M177 a known fault?

Yes. Mercedes lists oil leaks at the left and right cylinder head cover area of M176 and M177 engines, with the cause still under investigation. We clean the cover area, find the leaking gasket or cover and renew it, then check the oil level for the loss.

Does a Brabus 900 Rocket Edition take the same engine repairs as a G 63?

No. Its ROCKET 900 engine has an 84 mm bore, a 100 mm stroke, up to 1.4 bar of boost and twin high-pressure fuel pumps. Work inside it goes to Brabus, and we repair the base-car systems around it.
