Rolls-Royce transmission problems show in 5 ways. A shift you can feel, a shudder at light throttle and a gearbox message on the display come first. Oil under the car is the fourth sign, and the fifth, a lower gear held into a bend, can be normal.
A Ghost Series II reaches peak torque at 1,600 rpm, 600 rpm above tick-over, for the sense of one endless gear. A gear change the cabin can feel breaks that sense. We trace the cause of the felt shift and repair it.
A shudder that comes at light throttle and steady speed is a reason to check the gearbox. We find whether the oil or the torque converter causes it, and refer a worn converter to a Rolls-Royce dealer.
A gearbox warning on the display comes with a fault stored in the car. We repair the fault behind the message, clear it and confirm that it stays clear.
Fresh oil below the gearbox is a leak to find before the level drops. We trace the joint that leaks, at the pan, a cooler line or a shaft seal, and replace the seal, gasket or line.
Satellite Aided Transmission comes as standard on the Dawn. When the driver lifts off before a corner, it holds the lower gear so full power is ready for the exit. We leave that held gear alone and repair a shift fault that shows on a straight, level road.

Our Rolls-Royce transmission repair begins with the confirmed cause, and we repair that cause first.
We aim each repair at its cause, and the driver gets these results:
Gear changes pass without a jolt, in slow traffic and at motorway speed.
The car moves off and cruises with no shudder through the floor.
Each drive begins with no gearbox message on the display.
The floor under the car shows no fresh oil spots.
On a Wraith, Dawn or Ghost with the system, the gear chosen for the road ahead comes through cleanly.
A fault traced to the oil, the fill or a leak is fixed without removing the gearbox.
A Rolls-Royce gearbox depends on the model. The Wraith and the Dawn each use an eight-speed automatic, and the Ghost Series II pairs its eight-speed gearbox with all-wheel drive. Black Badge Wraith and Ghost cars carry their own drive shafts and a crisper eight-speed automatic.
The Cullinan was the first Rolls-Royce to drive its front wheels as well as its rear, with strengthened drive and prop shafts. The Black Badge Cullinan uses an eight-speed automatic, and on the Series II its transmission and throttle are calibrated for quicker acceleration. We set the oil and the method for each model's gearbox and driveline.
Satellite Aided Transmission uses GPS data to choose the gear for the road ahead. On the Wraith, where it made its debut, it anticipates corners, motorway junctions and roundabouts. The 2020 Ghost pre-selects the optimum gear for coming corners, and the Ghost Series II picks the exit gear by how tight the bend is.
We learn how this system behaves on each model before we work on its gearbox.
Steps 3 to 5 follow the general oil change method for 8-speed automatics.
We note the road speed, the gear, the outside temperature and whether the fault comes with the gearbox cold or hot.
The gearbox control unit stores its own fault code and asks the engine control unit to light the engine lamp. We read the gearbox unit itself, then repair the fault it records.
On a metal pan, we renew the oil filter and its sealing ring. A plastic pan carries both inside it and is renewed as one part. Fresh oil then goes in until it runs from the filler hole.
We keep the engine at 2,000 rpm for a 30-second spell, and that spell fills the torque converter with oil.
The level check waits until the gearbox oil reaches its set temperature. The fill is right when oil drips, not flows, from the filler hole at that temperature.
We repeat the drive in the conditions noted at step 1, then scan once more. A clean second scan closes the job.

The cost of Rolls-Royce transmission repair in Dubai depends on the fault, the gearbox and the access work. An oil change with a new filter or pan differs in labour and parts from a leak repair. A dealer referral for internal damage is a third level.
On an 8-speed automatic, underbody trims and covers come off as needed to reach the pan. An all-wheel-drive Ghost (2020) or Cullinan carries a front driveline as well. We price each job from the fault our checks confirm.

We start from the model code, such as RR21 for a Ghost or RR31 for a Cullinan, and the N74L or N74N V12 behind it. Parts and oil follow those codes.
The pan screws come out in the order the car maker sets, so the pan does not distort.
A refitted pan goes on with new screws, and the drain plug is new, with a new seal.
Residual oil comes out of the pan and off its magnet before the pan goes back on.
With the engine at idle, we select R and D in turn, then run through the gears.
Once the level is right, the filler plug closes to its specified tightening torque.

High temperatures and heavy loads can call for a shorter oil change interval on the eight-speed automatic of a Wraith, Dawn or Black Badge Cullinan. A car whose past use is unknown can call for one too.
A gearbox drained for work must not be towed, and its engine must not run, until oil is back in.
