Warning signs

What are the signs that an Aston Martin engine needs repair?

An Aston Martin engine needs repair at the first of 6 signs. The cluster gives 3 of them: the engine lamp, a GPF warning and a climbing coolant gauge. The other 3 are a misfire, fluid under the parked car, and blue smoke with rising oil use.

The engine lamp on a DB12, DB11 or DBX

On a 24MY DB12 or 21MY DB11, a steady amber engine lamp marks a fault in the engine management system. Flashing amber marks a major fault, and a 21MY DBX shows red for one. We trace the fault to the failed part and replace it.

A GPF warning on a DB12 or 25MY Vantage

The 24MY DB12 and 25MY Vantage both carry a gasoline particulate filter (GPF) warning. On the DB12, a stage 2 warning means the filter cannot regenerate. The fault sits in its electrical or pressure systems or in the filter itself, and we replace the failed part.

A coolant gauge that climbs

A climbing temperature gauge, with lost power or a loud pinging, can mean an overheating engine. A 16MY Vanquish also lights its HIGH COOLANT TEMPERATURE warning. We find the leak, pump, thermostat or fan at fault and replace that part.

Misfire in an Aston Martin V8 or V12

A misfire costs the engine performance. Weak ignition coils cause it, and so do spark plug deposits that let the spark leak to earth. We replace the failed coil or plug and remove the cause of the fouling.

Fluid under a parked Aston Martin

Before each drive of a 24MY DB12, Aston Martin has the owner check for fluid deposits under the car. A drip of oil or coolant marks a leak on the engine. We trace the drip to the hose, gasket or seal that leaks and replace it.

Blue smoke and rising oil use

Blue smoke with rising oil use means the engine is burning oil. On a twin-turbo Aston Martin, the turbochargers belong in the search for the cause, along with the crankcase ventilation. We find where the oil gets in and repair that part, from a turbo seal to a blocked oil return.

What it covers

Aston Martin engine repair service in Dubai: what we include

Our work on each Aston Martin engine covers these jobs:

  • Check engine light and fault memory diagnosis

  • Charge cooler circuit repair
  • Ignition coil and spark plug replacement
  • Oil cooler hose, gasket and seal replacement
  • Turbocharger oil feed and return repair
  • O2 sensor and engine wiring repair

We cover the cooling, ignition, turbo and oil systems of the V8 and the V12, from a 21MY DB11 to a 24MY DB12.

What we see

What causes Aston Martin engine failure in Dubai?

Aston Martin engine failure in Dubai has 6 causes behind it. Aston Martin has confirmed 2 of them: DBX oil cooling hoses and damaged O2 sensor wiring on the DB11 V8 and 19MY Vantage. The other 4 are a leaking cap, soiled coolers, a stuck thermostat and a starved or sand-damaged turbo.

  • Oil cooling hoses on the 2023 DBX: a 2024 recall in Qatar covers a possible defect in these hoses. Oil drains out, pressure falls and the engine can cut out without warning. On affected DBX707 cars, Aston Martin's fix is a new set of oil cooler hoses. We inspect the hoses, and the recall work itself goes to an Aston Martin dealer.
  • O2 sensor wiring on a DB11 V8 or 19MY Vantage: up to a set chassis number, the rear engine cover can damage it by contact. Aston Martin's fix widens the wiring cutout in the cover until the two no longer touch. We make that change and fit a new sensor when its wiring or insulation is damaged.
  • A leaking cap: a cap that leaks stops pressure forming in the cooling system, so vapour bubbles form in the coolant. We fit a new cap.
  • Soiled radiator and coolers: dirt, insects and leaf debris on the fins cut heat exchange, keep the radiator fan running and weaken the AC. The DB12 adds auxiliary coolers to its central radiator. We clean each fin face by hand and keep pressure washers off it.
  • A stuck thermostat: a thermostat jammed in the closed position overheats the engine. On a map-controlled thermostat, a fault in the electric actuation can overheat it to the point of engine damage. We replace the thermostat.
  • A starved or sand-damaged turbo: lack of lubrication ranks among the most common causes of turbocharger failure. Sand drawn into the intake leads to total failure. The 21MY DB11 V8 and V12 and the 20MY DBS Superleggera V12 run twin turbochargers. We trace whether oil or grit ended a turbo and fix that cause.

The August mean daily high at Dubai International Airport is 41.9 °C, and rising sand blows there on 17.7 days annually. In stationary traffic, the radiator fan does the cooling alone, since no road air passes through the fins.

Our Aston Martin engine repair starts from the cause the tests confirm.

In depth

Results of a correct repair on an Aston Martin engine

Each result below follows from a repair we finish to Aston Martin's design.

Lower fuel use from a DBX

The DBX V8 has cylinder deactivation to enhance fuel economy. An engine with every cylinder sound lets that system work as designed.

Steady oil pressure in a 2024 Vanquish

The 2024 Vanquish routes its oil through a larger engine oil cooler. A clean cooler with sound hoses keeps the oil at its working temperature and the oil pressure steady.

Smooth pull from every cylinder

With every cylinder firing again, the V8 or V12 regains the performance a misfire takes away.

A GPF that cleans itself

On a 24MY DB12, the GPF stores particulates and burns them off in regeneration, which runs automatically as the car is driven. A GPF in sound order clears its soot without a stage 2 warning.

Catalytic converters spared

A misfire left running can damage the catalytic converter and cost engine power. A repair at the first misfire keeps the converters intact.

A coolant pump that keeps its seal

The seal in a coolant pump depends on the antifreeze in the coolant for lubrication. With the right coolant mix back in, the seal stays lubricated and the system stays protected against corrosion.

What we see

Why does an Aston Martin V8 have a second coolant circuit?

A second coolant circuit serves the twin water-to-air charge air coolers of the Aston Martin V8s named below. On the 24MY DB12, 21MY DBX, 21MY DB11 V8 and 25MY Vantage, Aston Martin specifies this charge cooler coolant apart from the engine coolant.

On the DB12 and the 2024 Vantage, a low temperature radiator sits on the charge cooler water circuit. Its job is to hold intake air temperatures stable in all conditions.

We repair the charge cooler circuit as a system of its own, from its hoses to its low temperature radiator.

Prevention

How Aston Martin engine repair works at Royal Prince Auto Care

Each Aston Martin engine job runs through these steps:

Record when the fault shows

We note the engine speed, the outside and engine temperatures and the warm-up time when the fault appears. The engine is then tested under those same conditions.

Run check engine light diagnostics

We read the faults stored in the engine management system with a diagnostic tester. A fault can exist without a stored code, such as an intake air leak, so we pressure-test the intake of a rough engine.

Pressure-test the cooling circuits

We hold the engine circuit and the charge cooler circuit under pressure and watch for a drop. A falling reading leads us to the leaking hose, joint or pump, which we replace.

Check the coolant for oil

Oil in the expansion tank comes from a defective head gasket or from an engine oil cooler that leaks. We test the gasket and the cooler, then renew the part at fault.

Replace the failed part

We fit the part the tests isolated, matched to the car's model and its MY code.

Road-test under the same conditions

We drive the car in the conditions where the fault first appeared. The oil and coolant levels then get a final check, along with every joint we opened.

Send the model, its MY code and the warning on the cluster by WhatsApp, or call to book an engine check.

Cost and value

What decides the cost of Aston Martin engine repair in Dubai?

The cost of Aston Martin engine repair in Dubai rests on 4 factors. First come the engine, V8 or V12, and the circuit at fault. The parts removed for access and the parts renewed with the failed one, such as a cap with a new radiator, make up the rest.

Damage that spreads before the repair, such as a piston scored by overheating, adds to the bill. We price each job from the failed parts our tests find on that car.

Why Royal Prince

Why choose Royal Prince Auto Care for your Aston Martin engine

We hold to these methods on each Aston Martin engine we repair.

A flush before a coolant change

When a DB11 V12 changes coolant type, Aston Martin has the system flushed first. We drain it, fill and bleed with clean water, idle until the top hose is warm, then drain and refill with the new coolant.

Parts matched to the V8 engine code

The DB11 and Vantage carry the AE22 V8, and the DBX carries the AE24. We match each engine part to that code.

New flywheel bolts on the V8

Aston Martin forbids re-use of the flywheel bolts on a DB11 V8 or 19MY Vantage. We fit new bolts and tighten them to 78 Nm.

Fresh oil and filters with each turbo

Every new turbocharger we fit gets an oil change, a new oil filter and a new air filter at the same time.

A new lid with each expansion tank

We replace the lid whenever we replace a coolant expansion tank. Plain water stays out of the system, because it can damage polyamide tanks.

Mounts and drive belt checked

Aston Martin lists the engine mounts and the accessory drive belt among the annual inspections of a 24MY DB12. We examine both on each engine job and replace a worn belt or a leaking mount.

Every model

Aston Martin models and engines we repair

We repair the engines of these Aston Martin lines:

  • Vantage (19MY to 21MY)
  • Vantage (25MY)
  • DB11 V8 and V12
  • DB12
  • DBS Superleggera
  • DBX
  • DBX707
  • Vanquish (16MY)
  • Vanquish (2024)

The 24MY DB12, 25MY Vantage and 21MY DB11 V8 each use a 3982 cc V8. The 21MY DB11 V12 and 20MY DBS Superleggera use a 5204 cc V12. A 5935 cc V12 powers the 16MY Vanquish, and a new 5.2 litre twin-turbo V12 the 2024 Vanquish.

In the 21MY DB11, both engines run independent quad-variable camshaft timing.

In Dubai conditions

How do you make an Aston Martin engine last longer in Dubai?

4 owner habits make an Aston Martin engine last longer in Dubai. The habits are spark plugs at the listed distance, fuel of the right octane, no pressure washer under the bonnet and a weekly coolant check. When a check turns up a fault, we repair it.

Change the spark plugs on time

A 24MY DB12, 25MY Vantage or 21MY DB11 V8 takes its new spark plugs at 64,000 km. A 21MY DB11 V12 goes to 128,000 km. A 20MY DBS Superleggera runs to 112,000 km, and we fit new plugs at each distance.

Fill with 95 RON or higher

A 24MY DB12 takes unleaded fuel of 95 RON at minimum. Low-octane fuel is one cause of engine knock.

Keep pressure washers out of the engine bay

On a 24MY DB12, Aston Martin rules out high-pressure hoses and steam cleaners under the bonnet. They can damage the connections of the electronic control modules and the fuse boxes.

Check the coolant level weekly

A 24MY DB12 has its coolant level on the weekly checks, and daily on long tours. The correct level sits at the top of the reservoir tank, and a level that keeps falling marks a leak for us to repair.

FAQs

Aston Martin Engine Repair questions, answered

Can an independent workshop handle Aston Martin engine repair in Dubai?

Yes. We repair Aston Martin V8 and V12 cooling, ignition, turbo, oil hose and sensor faults at Dubai Investment Park 2. Recalls and Aston Martin software go to a dealer. A new engine control module or engine software on a DB11, 19MY Vantage or DBS Superleggera also calls for a valve timing and misfire relearn.

Can I keep driving an Aston Martin with the engine lamp lit?

Yes. With a steady amber lamp, a 24MY DB12 or 21MY DB11 can go on when no audible, visible or physical sign of lost performance shows. A flashing amber lamp, or red on a 21MY DBX, means stop at once. We then find the fault and repair it.

Which turbochargers does an Aston Martin V8 use?

The V8 of the 24MY DB12 runs dual twin-scroll turbochargers, and the DBX707 engine has ball bearing turbochargers. We repair the oil feed and oil return of each turbo and replace a unit that has failed.

Do Aston Martin engines shut down cylinders?

Yes. The 5204 cc V12 of the 21MY DB11 and the 20MY DBS Superleggera has cylinder deactivation, and so does the DBX V8. Our misfire repairs cover every cylinder of these engines.
