A weak Aston Martin battery gives 6 signs. They are a low battery message, idle Stop/Start, a park brake message, a locked DB12, DBX power loss and a no-start. A recalled cable explains the DBX sign, so we test before we replace.
On a DB12, 21MY DB11, 25MY Vantage or 21MY DBX, the battery monitoring system shuts down non-essential systems before the charge falls below starting level. A message then appears on the infotainment display. We test a battery that keeps raising this message and replace it when it fails.
On a DB12, Stop/Start stops the engine at rest when its conditions are met, a suitable battery condition among them. The engine also restarts by itself when the battery condition endangers the next restart. When the outside temperature sits within range and the stops still fail, we fully test the battery and fit a new one on a fail.
A flat battery leaves APPLY FOOT AND PARK BRAKE in the message centre of a 21MY DB11, 21MY DBX or 20MY DBS Superleggera. Pressing the foot brake and pulling the park brake switch up resets the system. We charge or replace the battery behind the message, then complete that reset.
A DB12 with a fully discharged battery opens with the emergency key at the left side door alone. With the power lost, its window does not drop, so the door takes extra effort to open. We recharge or replace the battery so both doors and their windows work again.
Qatar's 2024 recall of DBX cars from 2020, 2022 and 2023 concerns battery cables that can disintegrate. The car can then lose electrical power, stall, or lose its headlights or power steering. Heat damage to the battery fuse box cover can also bring smoke or an odour into the luggage compartment.
We inspect those cables and send the car on to an Aston Martin dealer for its recall repair.
Aston Martin rules out driving a DB12, 21MY DB11, 21MY DBX or 25MY Vantage whose battery cannot start the engine, apart from recovering the car. Its instruction is to replace that battery. We fit the new battery instead of sending the car out on a jump start.

Aston Martin battery failure in Dubai springs from 6 causes: air heat, grid corrosion, lasting heat damage, faster self-discharge, engine-off use and Volante roof use. Heat drives the first 4, and the last 2 drain the charge with the engine off.
Dubai International Airport records a mean daily high of 40.3 °C in June, rising to 41.9 °C in August. A field test ran 60 Dubai taxis for 12 months. Their batteries ran hotter than 60 °C for 80 per cent of the time in use, with a 75 °C maximum.

Stop/Start on a DB12 switches the engine off at a standstill to cut fuel consumption and emissions. A new battery brings those savings back to Dubai traffic.
A DB12 begins a software update when its battery is above 80 per cent charged, among other conditions. A healthy battery holds that level.
The park brake of a DB12, 21MY DB11 or 21MY DBX cannot be put on or off when the battery voltage is too low. A charged battery keeps the brake under the driver's control.
The 48 V battery of a 21MY DBX takes its charge straight from the 12 V battery. A sound 12 V battery keeps it supplied.
The 12 V battery of a DB12, 21MY DB11, 20MY DBS Superleggera or 25MY Vantage needs no maintenance from the owner. Its checks belong to the regular services.
Mounting of the battery is on the list of items the RTA checks at the periodic test. We tighten the hold-down at every fit.
The 12 V battery of a DB12, 21MY DB11, 20MY DBS Superleggera or 25MY Vantage sits behind a trim panel at the right rear. On a DB12, a Pyrotechnic Safety Switch isolates the electrical system from the battery in an over-current or crash event. That switch works once and needs replacing after it fires.
We open the trim panel above the battery and nothing more, and we replace a switch that has fired.
A 21MY Aston Martin DBX carries 2 batteries: a 12 V battery and an 8 Ah lithium-ion battery at 48 V. The 48 V battery powers the Electronic Anti Roll Bar (eARC) system and sits under the boot floor at the right-side rear.
Aston Martin warns that the 48 V battery never supplies or receives power in a jump start and never takes an external charger. It rates that battery as not user serviceable, with its checks left to its dealers. Our work stays on the 12 V battery, and any charger we connect goes there.
Aston Martin has released DC-DC converter software that improves the 48 V system. We pass a DBX that needs this software to an Aston Martin dealer.

The ideal resting voltage is about 12.8 V. Below 12.4 V, the battery goes on charge before any test. Charging first lets the test read the battery and not its charge state.
An alternator in good order holds 14.4 V or less, and we read that voltage at idle. The stored codes come next, with the current the car draws once asleep. We repair the circuit that holds the car awake.
For the Middle East, Aston Martin lists a 92 Ah battery for the DB12, 21MY DB11, 20MY DBS Superleggera, 25MY Vantage and 21MY DBX. The 16MY Vanquish takes 88 Ah. We fit that capacity and never a smaller battery.
Before a terminal is loosened, a memory saver takes over the supply to the electrical system. On a DB12, 21MY DB11 or 21MY DBX, running the engine with the battery disconnected can damage the electrical modules.
On a DB12 or 21MY DBX, pressure on the end walls of a plastic-cased battery can push acid through its vent caps. We lift each battery with a carrier or by opposite corners.
A road test follows the fit, and a final battery reading closes the job.

Voltage alone shows the state of charge. The state of health takes a full test procedure, and we run it before we call any Aston Martin battery sound. A battery that fails it gets replaced.
A battery tester takes the battery type first: starter, gel, EFB or AGM. We match the tester setting to the battery fitted, every time.
The jump start terminals of a DB12 sit in the engine bay, a long cable run from the battery. We clamp the tester on the battery's own terminals, because the resistance of the car's cable distorts the reading.
Switching a load such as the headlights on briefly before a conductance test clears the surface charge. We do that on each Aston Martin, so the result reflects the battery.
For the misfire learn on a DB11 V8 or 19MY Vantage, Aston Martin calls for an AGM-compatible charger of at least 80 A. The radiator fan draws heavily during that learn. We hold the voltage up with a charger of that class during long diagnostic work.
A battery thrown out with household waste can leak into the environment and pollute soil and water. We send each old battery to a recycling centre.

The DB12, the 21MY DB11 V8 and the 25MY Vantage run a 3982 cc twin-turbo V8. The 21MY DB11 V12 and the 20MY DBS Superleggera run a 5204 cc twin-turbo V12.
4 habits stretch the life of an Aston Martin battery in Dubai. The 4 are a conditioner during long stands, standby mode, a drive after a low battery message and a test before summer. Each habit keeps the battery charged or finds a weak one before a failed start.
A DB12, 21MY DB11 or 20MY DBS Superleggera takes the Aston Martin battery conditioner at a charger socket behind the deck lid. A magnetic disc holds the plug there, and the deck lid closes and locks over the lead. With mains power on, the conditioner keeps a small trickle charge on the battery.
Standby mode on a DB12, 21MY DBX or 25MY Vantage shuts down non-essential systems to extend battery life while the car stands unused. Select it in the vehicle settings before a long stand.
Let the engine idle when the low battery message appears, or connect a suitable charger. A journey of about 48 km recharges the battery of a DB12, 21MY DB11 or 21MY DBX. A message that comes back after that drive calls for our battery test.
