A brake pad message in the instrument cluster
BMW monitors pad wear with a sensor on each axle, and the DSC control unit calculates pad life from them. We read the DSC fault memory and measure the pads on that axle to confirm the message.
BMW specialistsBMW brake pads and disc replacement in Dubai starts with measured discs at Royal Prince Auto Care, DIP 2. We fit new wear sensors.

The work we carry out on BMW models at our Dubai Investment Park workshop. Open the full details below.
A BMW with worn pads, discs or brake hardware shows 6 signs. Two are warnings on the display: a brake pad message and "Parking brake failed". The other 4 are felt or heard: squeal or grinding, judder, a soft pedal and a click from the rear brakes on driving off.
BMW monitors pad wear with a sensor on each axle, and the DSC control unit calculates pad life from them. We read the DSC fault memory and measure the pads on that axle to confirm the message.
BMW calls its parking brake actuator the EMF, an electromechanical emergency brake. The display shows "Parking brake failed" when an actuator cannot apply or release. We read the fault memory to find the cause.
Squeal comes from vibrating brake parts, set off by a sticky calliper piston, stuck slide pins or heavily worn discs. Grinding means no friction material is left on the pad. We find the part that vibrates and replace it, together with pads that have run out of friction material.
Judder comes from disc thickness variation, and a difference of as little as 0.015 mm can cause it. A speck of rust between hub and disc is enough to make the disc run out of true. We measure the thickness variation and the runout, then clean the hub and replace the discs in pairs.
A pedal that travels further points to low fluid, air in the lines or fluid that has boiled. Brake fluid absorbs water over time, and the water lowers its boiling point. We find the cause, then bleed the system and correct the fluid level.
On the G60 5 Series, G70 7 Series and XM with coloured M callipers, the rear spring clips click against the calliper carriers. BMW's fix is a small amount of its brake pad paste on the carriers. We apply that paste under the clips and listen for the click again.
Our BMW brake pads and disc replacement in Dubai covers measurement, parts and the electronic steps:
MIN TH is the minimum thickness, in millimetres, that the car maker stamps on the disc edge or hat. A disc at or below it is replaced, and we fit new pads to a disc above it.
BMW brake pad and disc wear in Dubai has 6 causes. Residual braking force, hard braking without time to cool and standing unused are 3 of them. The other 3 are a sticking calliper, contaminated friction surfaces and a disc worn thin.
Dubai's roads carry over 3.5 million vehicles a day, and that stop-start traffic brings pad wear forward.
We fit BMW's improved rear callipers where the G20 fault applies, repair or replace a sticking calliper, and replace contaminated or thin parts. Tapered wear on the removed pads points to a faulty calliper, so we read the wear pattern first.
A correct BMW brake job from our workshop gives you these results:
The next brake pad message comes when the pads reach their wear limit, so the CBS service date is right.
An electric parking brake reset after the pad change holds the car as designed. Parking brake performance is one of the items the RTA vehicle test checks.
Rear pads wear at their normal rate once a calliper that drags has been dealt with.
The rear brakes move off without the click that loose spring clips make.
Fluid with a sound boiling point does not boil under heavy braking, so the pedal keeps its travel.
The pedal and steering wheel stay still under braking once the disc runs true.
On a BMW with an electric parking brake, the rear brake job needs diagnostics because the parking brake acts through the rear brakes. On the M3 and M4 (G80, G82), BMW builds it into the single-piston floating callipers at the rear. Its pistons are released with a diagnostic tool, not wound back by hand.
An electric parking brake uses a motor to drive a pressure nut against the piston. Winding the piston back by hand damages the nut or the spindle. The rear pads change in the brake's pad-changing mode, set with a diagnostic tool, and the brake is calibrated after the repair.
We follow that route on every BMW with an electric parking brake, as step 3 of our process shows.
M Compound and M Carbon ceramic brakes differ in disc material, disc size and calliper colour. On the M3 and M4 (G80, G82), M Compound brakes have blue, black or red callipers on 380 mm front and 370 mm rear discs. M Carbon ceramic brakes have gold callipers on 400 mm front and 380 mm rear discs.
BMW states that carbon ceramic brakes fade less and wear more slowly. A carbon ceramic disc loses about 1.25% of its weight over its life, so its wear is checked by weighing or with a dedicated instrument.
BMW tells M owners that a squeak after long spells of gentle braking, a hum from perforated discs and heavier brake dust are normal. We identify the brake type and calliper colour before ordering parts. We refer M Carbon ceramic disc and pad work to a BMW dealer.
Our BMW brake job follows 6 steps, from the first road test to the last.
A short drive confirms the noise, judder or pull and rules out worn suspension parts. We then read the DSC fault memory for pad wear and parking brake entries.
Each disc is measured at 4 points or more, and the lowest value counts for the whole disc. That value is compared with MIN TH, and the pads are measured on every wheel.
On an electric parking brake, we retract the rear pistons via diagnostics. The fluid in the reservoir rises as the pistons go back, so the level is watched throughout.
The new disc goes onto a clean hub and is checked for runout against a 0.10 mm limit. Pistons, seals, dust boots and slide pins are checked, and the springs and clips are renewed.
New pads, and new discs where the measurement calls for them, go onto the car. After that, we reset the parking brake via diagnostics.
CBS is reset for the axle that was serviced. On the road test, the pedal is never stabbed, and any noise or vibration is checked.

The cost of BMW brake pads and disc replacement in Dubai depends on 4 factors: the parts, the axle, the brake type and extra repairs. The parts are pads alone or pads and discs, and the brake type is standard or M Compound. Our measurement shows which factors apply.
A corroded guide bolt or a hub out of true adds parts and labour. Fluid that tests below its limit adds a fluid change. To book a brake check, send us the model and the symptom by WhatsApp.
Each BMW brake job here rests on these practices:
Every disc and pad measurement is shared with you as a figure.
Each symptom is compared with BMW's published brake fixes, so the repair matches BMW's own remedy.
Wheel nuts are tightened in sequence with a torque wrench.
The calliper slides get a grease that does not harm rubber parts.
Each calliper hangs on a support while the disc is out, so the brake hose is never stretched.
We pump the pedal until its travel is back to normal before the car leaves the lift.
Our brake work covers these BMW ranges and platform codes:
Electric and plug-in BMWs such as the i4, iX and i5 still use hydraulic brakes and the same fluid. Regenerative braking uses their friction brakes less, which leaves discs and pads prone to corrosion. We look closely at their discs for that reason.
BMW brakes last longer in Dubai with 6 habits: engine braking, moving a parked car, fluid changes, a gentle break-in, dry brakes and recall checks. Each habit cuts the heat, rust or wear behind the causes listed above. We check for heat marks, rust and wear at every brake check.
A lower gear on a long descent keeps the pads and fluid cooler, which helps prevent fade and vapour lock.
A car left standing collects rust on its discs. Moving it a short way forwards and back with gentle braking once a week clears the rust off.
Brake makers set 2 years as the default for DOT 4 fluid, and the car maker's own interval comes first. We test the boiling point at each brake check and change fluid that falls below 180 °C.
BMW asks for the break-in on M brakes to be repeated after new pads are fitted. Without a maker's procedure, brake makers advise at least 200 km of gentle braking, with no hard stop over 3 seconds. We give you the bedding-in steps with the car.
BMW advises M owners to dry the brakes after a car wash with 2 or 3 gentle applications. It also advises keeping high-pressure cleaners off brake parts.
A Qatar recall covered the hydraulic brake unit on 2020 to 2021 models such as the 730Li, X5, M4 Competition and M8. A 2024 recall in Qatar covered the X1, X5 M60i and X7 M60i, where signal interference can cut brake power assistance. We tell you when a recall is open, and a BMW dealer carries out the recall repair.

A BMW shows it through CBS. BMW bases the pad calculation on the wear sensor, and once the sensor is triggered, CBS counts down the distance to the brake service. We measure the pads to confirm what CBS shows.
No. Brake makers advise new discs at every other pad change. A disc is replaced sooner when it reaches its minimum thickness or shows deep scoring, radial cracks or blue spots. New discs always go in with new pads.
No. The CBS brake pad reset works with a new wear sensor fitted, so the old sensor comes out with the old pads. We fit the new sensor and reset CBS for the front or rear axle with a diagnostic tool.
No, except for recall work and M Carbon ceramic brakes. A pad change on a BMW with an electric parking brake takes a diagnostic tool for the pistons and the CBS reset. We carry out both steps in Dubai Investment Park 2.
Yes. A BMW takes the brake fluid type its maker specifies, and a lower DOT class is never fitted. ABS and stability control units have passages finer than a human hair, so the fluid's flow matters. We bleed with the specified fluid after any work that opens the system.
